Electrical Testing and Protection Engineer

Role Overview

Electrical Testing and Protection Engineer at Petrotec Group. The successful candidate will have a strong background in testing and commissioning of electrical systems, with hands-on experience in High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) switchgear systems up to 33 kV.

Role Purpose

To execute testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical protection systems and equipment with technical excellence, ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements through independent and collaborative engineering work.

Key Responsibilities

Testing & Commissioning

• Participate in daily FAT/SAT activities, including testing, inspection, and commissioning activities.
• Prepare and review MOS, FAT/SAT procedures, test forms, checklists, and related documentation.
• Prepare, compile, and submit test reports, commissioning reports, and other technical documentation in a timely and accurate manner.

Technical Review & Analysis

• Review engineering drawings, specifications, relay setting files, and other technical documents.
• Review engineering documents, specifications, drawings, and technical submissions to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and protection system faults and implement appropriate corrective actions.

Stakeholder Coordination

• Coordinate effectively with vendors, clients, customers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of project activities.
• Collaborate with various internal departments to ensure the proper functioning and successful completion of operations.
• Provide technical support, guidance, and expertise during testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Maintain a strong commitment to quality, safety, and compliance with applicable standards and procedures.
• Comply with all QHSE standards, policies, and procedures relevant to your work.
• Actively participate in QHSE meetings and complete all required safety inductions and trainings.
• Identify and report unsafe conditions; take corrective action where possible within your scope.
• Follow guidance provided by QHSE officers and use PPE and emergency equipment correctly.
• Support a safe work environment by cooperating with safety practices and encouraging others to do the same.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
• 8 years proven experience in protection systems including design review.

Skills & Competencies

Technical Knowledge

• Comprehensive knowledge of electrical equipment and protection systems, including CTs, VTs, various types of protection relays, ACBs, VCBs, protection schemes, VFDs, UPS systems, and power transformers.
• Strong understanding of Protection Philosophies, Power Systems, and Electrical Protection Schemes.
• Expertise in configuration, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of protection relays from various vendors.
• Good understanding of communication protocols such as MODBUS/RTU, IEC 61850, and other relevant industrial communication systems.
• Strong technical and troubleshooting skills to independently execute testing and commissioning activities.
