Echocardiographer

Role Overview

Echocardiographer at NMC Healthcare. The role is based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and operates under the supervision of the Cardiologist.

Role Purpose

To perform echocardiography and cardiovascular evaluations using ultrasound technology to create images of the heart and its structures for diagnosis and monitoring of cardiac conditions, including heart disease, heart defects, and heart valve problems.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Imaging and Procedures

• Perform imaging and non-imaging cardiovascular evaluations which may include exercise tolerance tests, Holter monitoring, event recorders, electrocardiograms, stress tests, and transesophageal echocardiography.
• Obtain patient history, explain procedures to patient, and address patient concerns.
• Determine appropriate methodology and techniques to use.
• Arrange immobilization and/or support devices for proper patient positioning.
• Select appropriate imaging device.
• Prepare patient for echocardiography procedures and position patient as appropriate for prescribed procedure.
• Assist patients at completion of procedure.
• Use good judgment when determining if the procedure was sufficient for proper diagnoses, or if additional imaging procedures are needed.
• Provide images, data analysis, and patient information to the physician for diagnostic interpretation.
• Monitor patient physical condition during the course of the procedure.

Patient Safety and Monitoring

• Follow established pre-screening policy and procedure.
• Report patient change of status or emergency situations to clinical staff, supervisor, and/or cardiologist.
• Recognize abnormal rhythms and immediately notify Physician or appropriate clinical staff.

Facility and Equipment Management

• Prepare facilities in accordance with procedural requirements.
• Calibrate equipment as required.
• Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
• Troubleshoot equipment and document errors or equipment malfunctions.
• Escalate issues and concerns to engineer, supervisor, and/or cardiologist.

Administrative and Documentation

• Maintain accurate patient documentation, including computerized documentation.
• Perform general office duties: maintain stock supplies, assist administrators in determining quantities for purchase, record procedure codes for billing purposes, and schedule patients.

Occupational Safety, Health and Infection Control

• Comply with all OSH and infection control policies, standards, and procedures.
• Cooperate with hospital management to comply with OSH requirements.
• Work in accordance with documented OSH procedures and instructions and specific responsibilities.
• Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures.
• Notify OSH Hazards, incidents, Near misses, and issues.
• Assist with the preparation of risk assessments and incident reports.
• Comply with Waste management procedures and policies.
• Attend applicable OSH/Infection control training programs, mock drills, and awareness programs.
• Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safety systems.
• Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

Qualifications & Experience

• Valid DOH/DHA License or DOH Pass result as Echocardiographer to work in Abu Dhabi.
• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in cardiac echocardiography.
• Minimum 3-4 years of experience as Echocardiographer in a hospital facility.
• Valid home country license and registration as Echocardiographer.

Skills & Competencies

• Fluent in spoken and written English.
• Arabic language is desirable, but not essential.
• Demonstrate the ability to work in cordial conditions within a group practice in a hospital setting and as a member of a team.

Additional Information

• Valid Basic Life Support Provider Certification required.
• Valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification required.
