Role Purpose
The Dredge Mechanic is an integral part of dredging operations, responsible for the maintenance and repair of various mechanical systems and equipment onboard the cutter suction dredger. The role requires a hands-on approach, deep understanding of marine engineering principles, and close collaboration with the dredging crew to ensure smooth vessel and machinery operation.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repair
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on dredging equipment, including pumps, engines, and hydraulic systems.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues promptly, ensuring minimal downtime for the dredger.
- Install and maintain new equipment as per dredging project requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities and repairs.
- Assist in the development and implementation of maintenance schedules and procedures.
Operations and Safety
- Oversee the safe operation of all mechanical systems and implement necessary safety protocols.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and environmental standards.
Team Collaboration and Development
- Collaborate with the dredging crew to optimize equipment performance and efficiency.
- Train and supervise junior mechanics or deckhands on basic maintenance tasks.
Professional Development
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in dredging technology and best practices.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a mechanic, preferably in a marine or dredging environment.
- Strong background in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Familiarity with cutter suction dredgers and their unique mechanical systems.
- Valid certifications or licenses related to marine engineering or mechanics (e.g., STCW) are preferred.
