DREDGE MECHANIC

Role Overview

Dredge Mechanic with NMDC Group. The role is based on a cutter suction dredger vessel and involves hands-on maintenance and repair of mechanical systems and equipment onboard.

Role Purpose

Serve as an integral part of dredging operations, responsible for the maintenance and repair of various mechanical systems and equipment onboard the cutter suction dredger. Work closely with the dredging crew to ensure smooth operation of the vessel and its machinery through a deep understanding of marine engineering principles.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Monitoring

• Operate, monitor, and maintain main engines, auxiliary engines, pumps, compressors, and hydraulic systems on SPCSD.
• Monitor machinery parameters, alarms, and log readings during dredging and sailing operations.
• Assist in operation and maintenance of dredge pumps, cutter drive systems, gearboxes, and associated machinery.

Maintenance & Repair

• Carry out routine inspections, planned maintenance, and breakdown repairs as per PMS and Chief Engineer's instructions.
• Perform overhauling of engines, valves, pumps, filters, and mechanical components as required.
• Ensure proper lubrication, cooling, and fuel systems functioning at all times.

Machinery Systems

• Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping of engine room and machinery spaces.
• Assist during bunkering, engine trials, and emergency situations.

Reporting & Safety

• Follow safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, and company HSE policies.
• Report defects, abnormalities, and spare requirements to the Engineer Officer promptly.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma in Mechanical.
• 5–10 years' experience on dredger.
• STCW training certification.
• STCW COP III/4 or higher is mandatory.
• ILO/MLC Seafarer's medical fitness certificate.
