Division Chief - Adult Psychiatry for Women's Mental Health

Role Overview

Division Chief - Adult Psychiatry for Women's Mental Health at Sidra Medicine. Reporting to the Chair - Women's Services, this role provides clinical, education, research, and executive management leadership for the division.

Role Purpose

The Division Chief is a clinical and managerial leader working with the Sidra executive team to develop and deliver strategy and business plans. The role is accountable for resources and performance in the designated division, integrating research and education priorities into a program of excellent clinical service delivery. The Division Chief may continue with personal clinical, educational, and research activities in a reduced and modified manner.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Vision

• Identify and articulate the vision, strategic direction, and growth of the Division of Women's Mental Health.
• Develop implementation strategies to achieve the division's vision and strategic direction.
• Implement the clinical service strategies and business plan for the Division of Women's Mental Health.

Financial and Resource Management

• Hold accountability for the financial performance and management of all budgets within the division.
• Make recommendations for the purchase of capital and other equipment.
• Participate in the evaluation of products for use by division members to ensure their safety and efficacy.

Clinical Governance and Compliance

• Hold accountability for division performance, customer satisfaction, and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure that staff of the division provide services in compliance with all applicable standards and requirements of the Joint Commission International, Qatar Supreme Council of Health, and all other applicable regulatory bodies.
• In conjunction with the Chair – Women's Services, ensure the implementation of robust clinical governance structures and processes to ensure patient safety.
• Ensure optimal women's mental health coverage at all times across Sidra in various settings including Consultation/Liaison, Emergency Department, Clinics, and Inpatient Units including after-hour coverage.
• Work with the Chair – Psychiatry and Chair – Women's Services to establish and update the work week standards for all physicians on staff and assure appropriate clinical coverage for all patients.

Professional Development and Performance Management

• Recommend clinical privileges, appointment, reappointment, and corrective action for each member of the division.
• Promote mentorship and academic career development for division staff members.
• Conduct surveillance of the professional performance of all individuals in the division who have delineated clinical privileges, including ongoing and focused professional practice evaluations (OPPE and FPPE).
• Promote leadership and direction for the development of strategies to promote recruitment, retention, and the mission of excellence for the medical staff.
• Collaborate with Department Chairs and other Division Chiefs to execute recruitment, retention, and excellence strategies.

Service Planning and Operations

• Lead clinical service planning, service development, and capacity planning for the Division of Women's Mental Health.
• Develop and implement policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of divisional services.
• Ensure all members of the division optimize the use of electronic medical records.
• Conduct other duties as directed by the Chair of Women's Services, Chief Medical Officer, and/or Chief Executive Officer.

Quality Improvement

• Set and achieve targets to drive continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided.
• Initiate actions for necessary improvements according to Sidra Board initiatives.
• Identify and coordinate resolution of problems to improve physician utilization and patient satisfaction.

Information Security and Privacy

• Set and achieve targets for programs and procedures for confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with hospital policy and the privacy laws of the State of Qatar.

Research and Academic Activities

• In conjunction with the Chief Research Officer and other division heads of research, ensure a program of clinical and translational research is developed, promoted, and delivered within the division.
• Be actively involved in research, graduate teaching, and publication in higher impact referred journals.
• Advise students and participate in academic services.

Governance and Committee Responsibilities

• Hold responsibility for all administrative-related activities of the division unless otherwise provided by the hospital.
• Serve on all requested committees, including medical executive committee.
• Appoint committees as necessary to conduct the operations of the department.

Internal and External Communications

• Ensure effective communication and involvement of all staff within the division regarding key decisions and initiatives.
• Work collaboratively with other Department Chairs, Chief Officers, and Executive Directors to achieve broad Sidra objectives.
• Develop, manage, and support physician and community relationships.
• Coordinate and disseminate information to all stakeholders to solicit ongoing support from the State of Qatar.
• Develop and maintain appropriate systems of communication between Sidra and other providers of primary and advanced patient care in Qatar for the purpose of individual patient care and systemic safety and quality improvement.

Physician Relations and Marketing

• Initiate, implement, and oversee programs designed to foster positive relations between physicians and hospital operations and administration.
• Assist with marketing strategies to inform physicians and their staff of Sidra's clinical diagnostic procedures, services, and resources.
• Promote and evaluate physician community outreach programs as appropriate.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

• MD, MBBS, or equivalent degree.
• Residency training in Psychiatry.
• Subspecialty Fellowship in Women's Mental Health or equivalent certification or training.

Experience

• 10+ years post-residency clinical experience in the relevant field.
• 5+ years in academic leadership in area of specialty.
