Role Purpose
The Director of Safety, Health and Environment develops and implements comprehensive safety, health, and environmental management systems and policies across road and infrastructure projects. The role ensures regulatory compliance, drives a culture of safety and environmental responsibility, and integrates sustainable practices throughout project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Policy & Systems Development
- Develop and implement Safety, Health and Environment policies, procedures, and management systems.
- Ensure compliance with local laws, regulations, and international standards.
Risk Management & Assessment
- Lead risk assessments, hazard identification, and mitigation planning.
- Conduct audits, inspections, and incident investigations, recommending corrective actions.
- Oversee emergency preparedness and response planning.
Monitoring & Compliance
- Monitor site activities to ensure adherence to safety and environmental requirements.
- Manage compliance across diverse teams and multiple projects.
Culture & Training
- Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility across all project teams.
- Provide training and awareness programs for employees and contractors.
Collaboration & Integration
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and contractors to integrate Safety, Health and Environment practices into project execution.
Reporting & Performance
- Prepare reports and present Safety, Health and Environment performance metrics to senior management and stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in safety, health, and environmental practices.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- Extensive experience in Safety, Health and Environment leadership roles within road and infrastructure projects.
- Proven expertise in risk management, audits, and incident investigation.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations, environmental laws, and industry standards.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong communication and training abilities to promote safety culture.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Safety, Health and Environment management systems, reporting tools, and MS Office.
