Role Overview

Dean of Learning and Teaching at Sharjah Maritime Academy. This leadership position plays a crucial role in advancing the Academy's educational vision through collaboration with key stakeholders to enhance curriculum quality and promote innovative teaching practices, ensuring that educational standards align with industry and governmental requirements.

Role Purpose

Lead the implementation of the Academy's educational strategy by facilitating the integration of innovative curricula and driving quality improvement initiatives across academic departments. Ensure educational provisions meet UAE Ministry of Education standards, maritime industry requirements, and are research informed while fostering a strong learning and teaching community.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Support

• Assist Provost and Vice Chancellor Academic as needed to support strategic goals.
• Lead the implementation of the Academy's educational strategy by facilitating the integration of innovative curricula, leveraging resources from laboratories and libraries.

Quality Improvement and Academic Frameworks

• Drive quality improvement initiatives through the development of academic frameworks and a robust digital learning ecosystem across academic departments.
• Monitor educational provisions in accordance with the UAE Ministry of Education's standards, supporting year-on-year continuous improvement.

Stakeholder Engagement and Standards

• Work closely with College Deans, Program Heads, Institutional Effectiveness, and business partners to ensure academic programs meet maritime industry standards and requirements.
• Ensure that the educational provisions are research informed and aligned to industry needs.

Digital Learning and Innovation

• Champion Academy's digital learning ecosystem for campus based, hybrid, and online learning.

Staff Development and Student Support

• Foster a strong learning and teaching community by providing tailored support and professional development for academic staff, enhancing their instructional methods in line with global best practices in applied Higher Education.
• Assist academic staff in delivering high-quality education that caters for the diverse backgrounds and abilities of all students.

Availability

• Be willing to travel as required and occasionally work outside of the contractual standard working hours.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Qualifications

• PhD in Education or relevant subject.

Preferred Qualifications

• Recognised qualification for teaching in Higher Education.
• Relevant industry body affiliation or membership.

Essential Experience

• Extensive and expert knowledge and understanding of learning and teaching in higher education.
• Minimum of 5 years of academic leadership experience in higher education, including evidence of successful change management programs.
• Successful leadership at large-scale improvements or change projects within higher education.
• Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and academic support.
• Strong understanding of digital learning technologies and pedagogical best practices.

Preferred Experience

• Familiarity with the UAE's Higher Education landscape, including policies, practices, and national education standards (QFEmirates, CAA, NQC).
