CSSD Technician

Role Overview

CSSD Technician at NMC Healthcare. The role is based on-site at a healthcare facility requiring Central Sterile Services Department expertise.

Role Purpose

Provide effective and efficient decontamination, processing, and distribution of reusable medical devices to support direct patient care across wards, departments, and theatres.

Key Responsibilities

Decontamination & Equipment Processing

• Receive, disassemble, clean, inspect and test contaminated equipment as per established protocols.
• Operate and test washer disinfector machines, driers, sterilizers and other decontamination equipment within the department as per established protocols.
• Operate and test all decontamination machinery within the department and inform supervisors or assistant managers if results are contrary to those required.
• Carry out functionality tests on all reusable medical devices and record and process test results to demonstrate compliance, enable audit and facilitate analysis.

Quality Assurance & Validation

• Undertake quality checks for cleanliness and completeness of equipment before distribution to wards, departments and theatres.
• Undertake daily validation tests of decontamination equipment and ensure appropriate documentation of activities and results.

Supply Chain & Inventory Management

• Issue sterile supplied goods and maintain holding stock levels within the wards and departments.
• Receive and document goods and equipment, check delivery notes against goods delivered for accuracy and record non-conformance.
• Assist in restocking of supplies and record all information required.

Administrative & Compliance

• Carry out assigned clerical tasks as requested by a supervisor.
• Communicate with colleagues and customers at all levels, including senior staff.
• Work in accordance with all safe working policies and procedures of the facility.
• Take reasonable care of themselves and others who may be affected by their actions.
• Take all actions to avoid, eliminate or minimize hazards.
• Seek information to ensure they are able to competently and safely perform any work they undertake and are aware of the risks and hazards associated with their work.
• Report all incidents and injuries.
• Attend all mandatory training as scheduled by their facility.

Qualifications & Experience

• Associate Degree in Central Sterile Services (CSS) technology with minimum two years' course duration.
• Certificate in any health-related field with certification as a member with one of the following: Certification by the Board of Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) USA or International Association of Healthcare Central Services Material Management (IAHCSMM).
• Licenses and registrations from all countries of practice.
• Department of Health (DOH) license is required.
