Control Room Operator

Role Overview

Control Room Operator at ACWA Power. Monitor and control unit and plant operation parameters, coordinate with other operators on all related activities affecting operation.

Role Purpose

Monitor and control the Unit/plant Operation parameters and coordinate with the other Operators in regard to all related activities that affect operation.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

• Comply with safety rules and regulations.
• Be familiar with fire equipment in the assigned area.
• Report near misses and implement prescribed risk controls.
• Report deviations in Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Management System.
• Ensure proper waste disposal measures.

Operations Monitoring & Control

• Monitor all parameters of the unit and enter periodic readings on log sheets.
• Inspect the unit and auxiliaries during the shift to ensure all equipment parameters are within limits.
• Be alert and take quick actions during abnormal operating conditions.
• Follow instructions of the Shift Charge Engineer and Shift Supervisor and coordinate with other Operators on all activities.

Documentation & Reporting

• Summarize all activities and events that took place during the shift in the log book.
• Report abnormalities to the Shift Supervisor or Shift Charge Engineer.
• Raise work requests or defect notes for faulty equipment and follow up for defect rectification.

Equipment Management & Maintenance

• Coordinate and ensure Lock Out & Tag Out during equipment isolation for maintenance as per the approved Permit To Work procedure.
• Normalize equipment after cancellation when instructed.
• Perform periodic protection tests under supervision of Shift Charge Engineer or Supervisor and maintain records.
• Perform equipment changeover according to preset schedules.

Knowledge & Training

• Be familiar with plant P&IDs, SOPs, Work instructions, Operation and control logics, emergency operation procedures and any other related documents.
• Assist in the training and familiarization of new operators.

Other Duties

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor of Engineering or Diploma in Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years in the same position.

Skills & Competencies

• Generic awareness of Quality, Occupational Health & Safety and Environment Management System principles.
• Knowledge of identification, classification and disposal of waste.
• Knowledge of Emission Monitoring.
• Knowledge of environmental and health impact of chemicals being used in the plant.
• Knowledge of firefighting equipment.
• Knowledge of PPE and safety equipment.
• Knowledge of First aid measures.
• Well conversed with Power and Water plant operational activities.
• Interpersonal communication skills.
• Analytical skills.
• Hazard Risk Assessment capability.
• Aspect Impact Assessment knowledge.
• Basic computer skills.

Additional Information

• Desired certifications: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 awareness or working knowledge.
• Ready to work in remote location.
