Control Room Operator

Role Overview

Control Room Operator at ACWA Power, located in Al Qasim, Qudra, KSA. Reports to the Shift Supervisor / Shift Charge Engineer within the Operations Department.

Role Purpose

Monitor and control unit and plant operating parameters while coordinating with other operators on all activities affecting plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Monitoring

• Monitor all unit parameters and record periodic readings on log sheets.
• Summarize all activities and events that occur during the shift in the logbook.
• Inspect the unit and auxiliaries during the shift to ensure all equipment parameters remain within acceptable limits.
• Remain alert and take prompt action during abnormal operating conditions.
• Report any abnormalities to the Shift Supervisor / Shift Charge Engineer.

Safety & Compliance

• Comply with safety rules and regulations and be familiar with firefighting equipment in the assigned area.
• Be familiar with plant P&IDs, SOPs, work instructions, operation and control logic, emergency operating procedures, and other related documents.
• Follow the instructions of the Shift Charge Engineer and Shift Supervisor and coordinate with other operators regarding all operational activities.
• Report near misses and implement prescribed risk controls.
• Report deviations related to the Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Management System.
• Ensure proper waste disposal measures are followed.

Equipment & Maintenance

• Coordinate and ensure Lock Out & Tag Out (LOTO) during equipment isolation for maintenance in accordance with the approved Permit to Work (PTW) procedure.
• Normalize equipment after cancellation when instructed.
• Perform periodic protection tests under the supervision of the Shift Charge Engineer / Supervisor and maintain the required records.
• Perform equipment changeovers according to established schedules.
• Raise work requests or defect notifications for faulty equipment and follow up on defect rectification.

Training & Support

• Assist in the training and familiarization of new operators.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

• Diploma in Engineering is required.
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is preferred.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years of experience in the same position.

Skills & Competencies

• General awareness of Quality, Occupational Health & Safety, and Environmental Management System principles.
• Knowledge of waste identification, classification, and disposal.
• Knowledge of emission monitoring.
• Knowledge of the environmental and health impacts of chemicals used in the plant.
• Knowledge of firefighting equipment.
• Knowledge of PPE and safety equipment.
• Knowledge of first-aid measures.
• Good knowledge of Power / Water Plant operational activities.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Analytical skills.
• Hazard Risk Assessment capability.
• Knowledge of Aspect Impact Assessment.
• Basic computer skills.
• ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 awareness or working knowledge is preferred.
