Role Overview
Consultant Physician Urology (Andrology) at SEHA. The post holder delivers high quality, evidence-based and patient-centred care and is expected to be an example of clinical excellence within the Division.
Role Purpose
To diagnose and treat patients according to established standards of best practice in urology and andrology, supervise and train junior medical staff, and contribute to quality improvement and safe patient care across the Division.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Delivery
- Diagnose and treat patients according to established standards of best practice for the specialty under the supervision of the Consultant Physician.
- Lead ward rounds and reassess both inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis in line with established best practice.
- Accept clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk-in patients, and patients referred from other hospitals.
- Ensure preparation of patients for all procedures including obtaining informed consent.
- Accurately document all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures.
- Regularly review results of all investigations and modify treatment as required.
- Communicate clinical information to patients and the patient's family and friends (with consent of the patient) in a timely manner.
- Comply with all hospital policies regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow-up practices.
Supervision & Training
- Assist the Consultant Physician in supervising the activities of junior medical staff and jointly assume responsibility for the care they provide.
- Promote and assist in the instruction, guidance and supervision of junior medical staff.
- Keep abreast of the current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry.
Stakeholder Management & Collaboration
- Liaise with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required.
- Actively participate in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe and holistic care for individual patients.
- Maintain a good working relationship with members of staff and promote collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care.
Quality & Safety
- Support quality improvement initiatives within the Division.
- Support a culture of regular audit and encourage the use of audit results for improving clinical practice.
- Support the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents.
Research & Education
- Promote and participate in clinical research and publication.
On-Call & Coverage
- Participate in and support the Consultant Physician in ensuring the provision of out-of-hours on-call coverage on a rotational basis including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays as required.
Managerial & Administration
- Support and adhere to all hospital departmental and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures.
- Support and participate in the organization's performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes.
- Assist Consultant staff in ensuring that adequate medical coverage is provided within the Division at all times.
- Attend Divisional meetings as invited.
- Practice appropriate utilization of the organization's resources.
- Assume other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Consultant Staff.
- Perform other clinical responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
Special Certificate (Required)
Tier 1: No additional experience required post board certification.
Tier 2: Not less than 2 years of clinical experience post qualification in an internationally accredited institute. UAE nationals require no additional experience post board certification. For UAE Nationals and Non-UAE Nationals enrolled in HAAD-accredited residency programs: no experience required post board certification.
Tier 3: Not less than 3 years clinical experience as Specialist post qualification in an internationally accredited institute.
