Role Overview

Consultant Ophthalmologist at Astra ProMed, Dubai. Full-time position providing comprehensive ophthalmic care, including diagnosis, medical management, and surgical treatment of a broad range of eye conditions.

Role Purpose

Deliver high-quality, patient-centered ophthalmic care through comprehensive consultations, diagnosis and management of ocular conditions, surgical intervention, and collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis

• Conduct comprehensive ophthalmic consultations and eye examinations.
• Diagnose and manage a broad range of ocular conditions affecting the anterior and posterior segments of the eye.
• Evaluate and manage cataracts, glaucoma, retinal disorders, corneal conditions, and other eye diseases.
• Interpret ophthalmic diagnostic investigations, including OCT, visual fields, fundus imaging, and other relevant tests.

Surgical & Treatment Delivery

• Perform appropriate ophthalmic surgical procedures within the scope of practice.
• Perform cataract surgery and other relevant procedures where qualified.
• Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings and patient needs.
• Provide preoperative assessments and postoperative care and follow-up.

Emergency & Acute Care

• Manage emergency ophthalmic presentations and provide timely treatment.

Patient & Family Communication

• Counsel patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical procedures, risks, and expected outcomes.
• Provide consultations and second opinions for complex ophthalmic cases.

Collaboration & Coordination

• Collaborate with optometrists, ophthalmic technicians, anesthesiologists, and other specialists.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and teaching activities where applicable.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with UAE healthcare regulations and facility policies.

Qualifications & Experience

• Medical degree (MBBS, MD, or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
• Recognized postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology in accordance with applicable UAE licensing requirements.
• Eligible for or holding a valid DHA Consultant license/eligibility in the relevant specialty.
• Demonstrated experience in ophthalmic diagnosis, treatment, and surgical procedures.
• Additional fellowship or advanced training in a relevant ophthalmic subspecialty is desirable.
• Experience in cataract surgery and other relevant ophthalmic procedures is desirable.
