CNS Systems Engineer

Role Overview

CNS Systems Engineer at Saudi Arabia Navigation Services in Saudi Arabia. The role is responsible for participating in the execution of communication, navigational aids and surveillance (CNS) systems deployment to ensure they meet the operational needs and requirements of SANS and deliver Air Traffic Control services in a safe and efficient manner within set KPIs, agreed budgets and adopted policies and procedures.

Role Purpose

Participate in the execution of communication, navigational aids and surveillance (CNS) systems deployment and ensure that they meet the operational needs and requirements of SANS to deliver Air Traffic Control services in a safe and efficient manner within the set KPIs, agreed budgets and adopted policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

CNS System Development

• Participate in the development and maintenance of the current and future design of CNS system assets to meet operational, safety and regulatory requirements.
• Assist CNS Systems Engineering Chief in assessing the impact of changes in ATS procedures and airspace structure on current and planned CNS systems.
• Evaluate the impact of obstacles around airports on the functionality of CNS systems and escalate when an obstacle is unacceptable.
• Handle CNS systems initiatives and programs.
• Participate in and introduce working papers in international and regional conferences and ICAO panels related to CNS systems.

CNS System Operations

• Coordinate with other ANSPs for technical interfacing, integration and communication.
• Support the development of the CNS/ATM Evolution Plan and ensure that all CNS systems needs are captured and addressed.
• Translate air traffic CNS requirements of Control Centers and ATS Units into technical plans and programs by developing system design concepts, outlining technical performance specifications, identifying procurement requests and defining installation and testing standards.
• Participate in the testing, commissioning and hand-over of CNS systems projects and ensure that the delivered system meets all requirements in terms of specifications and performance.
• Support maintenance activities of CNS systems as needed to ensure all systems are operating effectively.
• Monitor on-site activities to ensure completion as per agreed specifications and quality standards, and take appropriate action in case of any deviation.
• Develop CNS systems requirements scope of works (SOWs).
• Participate in reviewing and evaluating technical proposals for CNS systems.

CNS System Design and Quality

• Coordinate with other ESD departments to ensure the compatibility of CNS systems designs with current and future CNS/ATM systems and infrastructure.
• Participate in system design review (SDR), preliminary design review (PDR) and critical design review (CDR) meetings.
• Participate in the analysis of systems trouble reports (STRs) and conduct required modification programs and systems change process (SCPs).
• Advise CNS Systems Engineering Chief of any potential impact of on-going projects on ATC service delivery.

Policies, Processes and Procedures

• Participate in updating SANS general and technical standards and specifications.
• Participate in updating ESD manuals.
• Participate in CNS systems audits, internal and external reviews.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or equivalent is required.
• Minimum to no prior years required in Air Navigation systems.
