Role Overview

Clinical Psychologist at NMC Healthcare, Dubai, UAE.

Role Purpose

Participate in the diagnosis and therapy of psychiatric illness, serving as a professional assistant to Psychiatrists who provide psychiatric care to inpatients and outpatients with mental or psychological illnesses, and engage in preventive care as part of an integrated program of curative and preventive medicine.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis

• Conduct psychiatric interviews and collect data for diagnostic purposes.
• Perform psychometric (mental measuring) testing for diagnosis and evaluation of therapy.

Treatment & Therapy

• Provide various psychotherapies, including individual, group and family therapies.
• Offer counseling for couples with marital conflicts.
• Use behavioral methods for the treatment of children and adults and plan the frequency, intensity and duration of therapy.

Professional Development & Research

• Engage in research and educational activities that improve methods and techniques for the management of emotionally disturbed patients.
• Keep current with ideas in the fields of personality development and adjustment, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental disorders to assist in the planning of mental health progress.

Stakeholder & Community Engagement

• Provide advice to community organizations and participate in related psychological and welfare activities.

Operations & Availability

• Take after-hours or weekend calls as required by specific cases or in emergency situations as requested.
• Perform related duties as assigned by the Chief Psychiatrist.

Qualifications & Experience

• Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology from a recognized college or university.
• At least 2 years' experience in the field of clinical psychology.
• Current licensure in country of origin and DOH license to practice in Dubai, UAE.

Skills & Competencies

• Comprehensive knowledge of medical ethics with regard to the obligation to maintain work confidentiality.
• Working knowledge of intelligence, achievement, interest, personality and other psychological tests and measuring devices.
• Excellent command of oral and written English.
• Knowledge of Arabic language is desirable but not essential.
• Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, superiors, patients and families.
