Clinical Nurse Leader at Sidra Medicine, located in Qatar. The Clinical Nurse Leader demonstrates clinical expertise, strong leadership and collaborative skills in interactions with staff and members of the healthcare team, supporting the Clinical Nurse Manager in leading, precepting and mentoring nursing and midwifery staff as a clinical expert in a unit/service.

Role Purpose
The Clinical Nurse Leader is a key member of the interprofessional team who ensures that standards for nursing and midwifery care are adhered to at unit/service level while working within an assigned shift. The incumbent is accountable for shift coordination, patient flow, patient experience and resource allocation, and demonstrates problem solving, conflict management and service recovery skills to serve as a role model and change agent. The Clinical Nurse Leader is professionally accountable to the Chief Nursing Officer.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and People Management
- Make day-to-day decisions regarding unit operations that impact safety, quality and efficiency in the provision of patient care.
- Participate in the role of supervisor for assigned employees, contributing to the employee performance appraisal cycle and objectively assisting with action plans arising from appraisals as necessary.
- Support the selection, development and retention of all staff.
- Role model professional behaviors and appearance in line with Sidra policies, procedures, and Sidra Values.
- Promote a quality learning environment for students, interns and nurse residents, and actively involve yourself in teaching and developing staff.
- Role model patient experience principles, provide service recovery, and identify opportunities to improve the patient experience.
- Collaborate with leadership in the response and resolution of patient and family feedback, and lead on initiatives to enhance and optimize the patient and family experience.

- Practice within the DHP Scope of Practice according to licensure within the State of Qatar.
- Independently maintain licensure and regulatory requirements (e.g., life support certifications and CPD requirements).

Patient and Family Centered Care
- Deliver nursing care to patients and round to support delivery of patient care.
- Prioritize high and low risk patients based on patient centered assessment and plan of care.
- Coordinate complex patient care needs in collaboration with other healthcare team members.
- Facilitate patient flow and coordinate patient's activities and communication during shift.
- Communicate effectively and clearly with patients and families including the use of approved tools such as SBAR.
- Support effective discharge and follow-up planning in collaboration with families.
- Support and promote the evaluation of learning needs of patients and families and facilitate patient and family education.
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Provide shift supervision and guidance to staff in collaboration with Clinical Nurse Manager, Clinical Nurse Educator and clinical nurse facilitator.
- Coordinate with Clinical Site Management Team on patient bed assignments.
- Facilitate patient flow and coordinate patient's activities and communication during shift.
- Act as a resource for staff/team members offering guidance and support, and provide accurate and timely feedback when necessary.
- Actively monitor nursing/midwifery workload and patient acuity within the unit to ensure optimum patient safety.
- Coordinate daily administrative and clinical duties including schedules, nursing/midwifery assignments and patient care.
Evidence Based Practice
- Adhere to and promote dissemination, use, monitoring and review of Sidra's Nursing and Midwifery Standards of Practice.
- Demonstrate clinical competency by delivering evidence-based care.
- Provide education and actively involve yourself in the competency management of staff.
- Monitor staff practice for adherence to policy, procedures, guidelines and standards in collaboration with the unit manager.
- Challenge the delivery of care which is not evidence based and support remediation appropriately.
- Actively encourage, participate in and/or lead in unit-based simulation activities.
Quality Improvement
- Identify patient care issues and/or ways to improve and positively impact on the quality of care and patient outcomes.
- Work with others to affect change and produce positive outcomes through sharing of knowledge and information.
- Contribute to the achievement of effective utilization of resources.
- Facilitate and lead quality and performance improvement activities to ensure organization, service and unit KPIs are achieved.
- Identify cost efficiencies and/or lead initiatives to reduce cost.
- Participate in, promote and facilitate unit-based Shared Leadership initiatives.
- Contribute to the audit process and the submission of administrative documentation relating to Nursing and Midwifery key performance indicators.
- Actively participate in and/or lead activities related to organization accreditation including MOPH, JCI, Magnet and others as required.
Safety
- Ensure safe and high-quality patient care during shift through appropriate and equitable allocation of work based on patient acuity and skill mix.
- Lead on identifying safety issues in their area of work, resolving and/or escalating appropriately.
- Ensure reporting of and lead in the investigating of incidents and near misses using the organizational error reporting system.
- Oversee and monitor appropriate delegation of tasks within the unit/area of expertise.
- Observe and manage nursing care duties and tasks including the administration of medication.
- Respond and intervene appropriately in emergency situations and take immediate action.
Informatics
- Role model correct use of IT systems, including confidentiality and data protection.
- Demonstrate a high standard of documentation in the patient EMR and act as a resource for staff.
- Maintain competence in accessing and usage of all IT systems including appropriate downtime procedures.
General

Post-Operative and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit Specific Responsibilities
- Demonstrate competencies as outlined in the Pediatric PACU unit orientation and competency booklets, including functioning in accordance with Sidra Policies and Procedures and demonstrating the principles of ASPAN Standards for the provision of safe patient care in the clinical environment.
- Perform airway management.
- Monitor vital signs.
- Perform pain assessment and medication administration.
- Apply appropriate thermal regulation techniques.
- Demonstrate advanced assessment, clinical judgement and decision-making skills.
- Care for and manage pediatric post-operative patients with emergence delirium.
- Manage fluid/IV care.
- Manage post-operative nausea and vomiting.
- Administer and manage patient controlled analgesia (PCA), Nurse Controlled Analgesia (NCA) and/or epidurals.
- Perform pain management and documented interventions.
- Perform wound care.
- Assess discharge criteria from Phase 1 and provide discharge education.
- Manage Phase 2 discharge home.
- Communicate continuously with peri-operative team and other medical staff members for delivery of safe quality patient care.
- Complete pre-procedure checklist.
- Provide post-operative care family education.
- Conduct pre- and post-operative calls.
Day Surgery Specific Responsibilities
- Demonstrate competencies as outlined in the Day Surgery unit orientation and competency booklets, including care and management of the surgical patient pre and post anesthesia/surgery on the day of surgery aligning to ASPAN Standards for safe efficient patient care.
- Optimize patient status for surgical or procedural experience.
- Identify needs for assessment follow-up, pre-procedural education, and emotional support.
- Employ a family centered approach with demonstrated knowledge of age specific developmental needs.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessment, plan, implementation and evaluation of care.
- Conduct pre-procedural assessment and verification using checklist.
- Deliver pre-procedural interventions per treatment, including but not limited to IV antibiotics, site marking, and skin preparation.
- Provide discharge teaching and education.
- Evaluate readiness for discharge using PADSS score.
- Demonstrate advanced clinical assessment and critical thinking.
- Work effectively in a fast-paced, high-turnover environment.
