Clinical Educator - Pediatrics

Role Overview

Clinical Educator - Pediatrics at American Hospital Dubai, based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Role Purpose

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate learning and development programs for assigned nursing units in collaboration with the area Nursing Manager and Nursing Department to ensure the competence and ongoing development of staff, support the hospital's mission and goals, and meet Joint Commission International Accreditation Standards. Optimize clinical competence of nursing staff utilizing bedside teaching and act as a resource to other nursing units as required.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment and Program Development

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing unit orientation, learning and development programs consistent with the hospital's mission and goals.
• Develop and implement competency-based assessment programs.
• Manage and maintain a computerized database for staff competency development plans and education attendance.
• Assist with departmental competency planning and review.

Clinical Teaching and Mentoring

• Act as a mentor and clinical resource at the unit level.
• Conduct formal and informal teaching sessions at the unit level.
• Provide an educational resource service within assigned areas and additional units as required.
• Impart knowledge in critical thinking to new employees and colleagues.
• Optimize clinical competence of nursing staff utilizing bedside teaching.

Reporting and Documentation

• Provide regular updates to the department Manager.
• Report and document as directed in relevant policies and procedures.
• Understand the responsibilities of safe handling and administration of Narcotic/Controlled Drugs and documentation as directed by policies and procedures.

Professional Standards and Competency

• Maintain clinical and professional competency based on the latest research and established standards of practice.
• Complete all Core Competencies for nursing as well as applicable Unit Specific Competencies within prescribed timelines.
• Demonstrate awareness and knowledge of Infection Control, Pain Management and Wound Care practices and standards.
• Support hospital policies and serve as a professional role model for staff.
• Maintain annual education requirements and participate in ongoing education activities.

Leadership and Collaboration

• Demonstrate support of leadership.
• Encourage team decisions and cooperation within and across departments.
• Assist in resolving differences of opinion.
• Participate in hospital-wide and nursing committees.
• Actively participate in hospital and department quality improvement initiatives.

Operational and Safety

• Work in other areas within the hospital when assigned, within the scope of practice.
• Demonstrate understanding and familiarity with Facility Management and Safety Plans.
• Attend the monthly Nurse Management Team meeting and monthly Education meeting.
• Perform additional duties when required within the scope of practice.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing with a minimum of three (3) years full-time course duration, OR
• Degree in Nursing with a minimum of two (2) years course duration and Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
• UAE nationals who are graduates of UAE or non-UAE universities are exempted from the experience and clinical training requirements for the applied title. UAE nationals must submit a copy of their birth certificate and the mother's family book.
• Non-UAE national graduates from UAE universities are required to successfully complete six (6) months of clinical training post-graduation in an APS health facility, except for Registered and Assistant Nurse titles.

Licensing and Certification

• Must hold a valid License or Registration to practice in their home country and/or country of last employment, where applicable.
• Must hold a minimum of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or others according to the scope of practice.

Professional Experience

• Minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in a specific area of practice.
• Minimum of two (2) years of clinical teaching experience in a clinical environment.
• Knowledge of Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) acute care medical facility.

Skills & Competencies

• Organizational skills including time management, managing tasks, meeting deadlines, and maintaining productivity.
• Ability to impart knowledge in critical thinking to new employees and colleagues.
