Role Overview

Classroom Assistant at Yasmina British Academy, Abu Dhabi, for Academic Year 26/27. Aldar Education seeks a Classroom Assistant to support our growing family of owned and operated schools in the UAE.

Role Purpose

The Classroom Assistant provides comprehensive support to individual pupils and groups of pupils inside and outside the classroom to enable full participation in a range of activities during the school day and to provide for their social, emotional and physical well-being.

Key Responsibilities

Pupil Support & Well-being

• Provide support for individual pupils and groups of pupils inside and outside the classroom.
• Enable pupils to fully participate in a range of activities during the school day.
• Support pupils with additional support needs, including emotional and behavioural difficulties.
• Help develop pupils' social skills.
• Provide for pupils' social, emotional and physical well-being.
• Supervise pupils in classrooms and other locations.
• Keep pupils on task.
• Praise and reinforce achievements of pupils.
• Participate in development of behaviour policy and promote pupils' self-esteem.
• Discipline misbehaviour in line with whole school policy.

Academic Assistance

• Assist in the implementation of individual education programmes for individual pupils and groups of pupils.
• Help monitor pupils' progress.
• Provide academic assistance.
• Give group instruction as prescribed by the teacher.
• Provide individual instruction as prescribed by the teacher.
• Demonstrate various instructional activities.
• Monitor work assigned by teacher.
• Check and correct pupils' work while in progress.
• Report pupil progress to teacher.

Administrative & Classroom Support

• Assist class teachers with maintaining pupil records.
• Check attendance.
• Support class teachers in photocopying and other administrative tasks.
• Prepare and present displays of pupils' work.
• Reorganise materials at the end of the day.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Be pro-active in matters relating to health and safety.
• Support the aims of the school.
• Comply with the requirements of health and safety, other relevant legislation and school policies.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum secondary school certificate.
• At least two years of experience in a school setting.
• UAE National with a minimum secondary school certificate or Bachelor's degree.

Skills & Competencies

• English language skills according to the school curriculum.
• Previous experience working with students for whom English is not their first language.
• Passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child.
• High level of professionalism and consideration of the well-being of children.
• Recent and consistent involvement in extra-curricular activities.
• Respect for all members of a school community, irrespective of position, gender, age and ethnic background.
• Positive and solution-focused attitude to working life.
