CHIEF ENGINEER

Role Overview

Chief Engineer for Dredger at NMDC Group.

Role Purpose

Assume overall responsibility for the operation, maintenance, and performance of all engine room machinery, dredge pumps, generators, and auxiliary systems. Lead the engineering team to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant vessel operations.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Performance

• Monitor fuel, lube oil, and other consumables, ensuring optimal usage and cost efficiency.
• Lead emergency response in the engine room, including firefighting, flooding, or machinery failure situations.
• Ensure compliance with ISM, MARPOL, classification society rules, and company safety and environmental standards.

Maintenance & Technical Management

• Plan, schedule, and execute preventive and corrective maintenance of all machinery.
• Participate in dry-docking, machinery inspections, and troubleshooting critical failures.
• Oversee procurement, inventory, and management of spare parts and critical equipment.

Team Leadership

• Lead, supervise, and mentor the engineering team, ensuring safe and efficient vessel operations.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate engine room logs, technical reports, and machinery performance records.
• Coordinate with shore management regarding operational issues, upgrades, and maintenance planning.

Qualifications & Experience

• Valid STCW III/2 Certificate of Competency (Chief Engineer Officer).
• 5–10 years experience onboard Dredger as Chief Engineer.
