Chartered Mechanical Engineer

Role Overview

Chartered Mechanical Engineer at Rider Levett Bucknall. The role involves working in close contact with clients to advise on design and assurance activities across Commercial, Residential, Education, Data Centre, Mixed Use, Sports, Retail, and Defense & Aerospace sectors.

Role Purpose

Deliver FM engineering and assurance services that exceed client expectations. You will be accountable for design review, compliance monitoring, and contractor oversight to ensure projects progress without compromising cost, quality, or specification.

Key Responsibilities

Design Assurance

• Undertake design assurance activities including review of construction drawings, design calculations, material submittals, and request for information forms.
• Review all documents related to detailed design.
• Monitor and review construction drawings, calculations, and shop drawings in respect of the engineering discipline.
• Review incorporation of as-built records.
• Undertake monitoring and surveillance of contractors' detailed design to determine compliance with applicable specifications, standards, and codes of practice.
• Review data generated by the contractor.

Compliance & Standards

• Ensure compliance with concept definition and standards.
• Ensure all FM activities are undertaken in accordance with applicable specifications, standards, codes of practice and quality systems procedures.

Client Support & Decision-Making

• Support the client's senior management to make mechanical engineering decisions required to ensure project progress without compromising cost, quality, or specification within contractual guidelines.
• Liaise with client's senior management and monitor actual progress of detailed design against programme start and finish dates within the engineering discipline.
• Manage proactive business relationships with the client's senior management, other engineers, and the client's customer as required.

Contractor Management & Monitoring

• Monitor and review the contractor's proposals and activities in respect of programming and resourcing of the engineering discipline.
• Prepare technical queries as directed by the client for submission to contractors or the client's customer.
• Prepare observation notes and non-conform reports regarding the client's contractors' proposals as directed by the client.

Reporting & Risk Management

• Prepare monitoring and surveillance reports and liaise with the client's PM regarding updates and findings.
• Ensure all risks and opportunities associated with activities under the individual's control are reported to the client along with mitigation and opportunity realisation activities.

Health & Safety

• Lead by example in terms of Health & Safety and positively impact the behaviours of others.
