Caregiver

Role Overview

Caregiver at NMC Healthcare. This role delivers direct patient care under the supervision of Registered Nursing Staff, supporting patients across clinical settings in a safe and timely manner.

Role Purpose

To provide compassionate, safe patient care and support while assisting licensed nursing staff with clinical and personal care activities, ensuring patients' physical, emotional, and social needs are met during their recovery.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Support

• Deliver patient care and service which is safe and timely under direct supervision of Registered Nursing Staff.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, toileting, and feeding, under the supervision of licensed nursing staff.
• Provide assistive care to tracheostomized patients under the direction of a registered nurse, ensuring proper training and updated competencies.
• Monitor and promptly report any changes or concerns in patients' conditions to licensed nursing staff.
• Communicate effectively with patients and their families, provide emotional support, and relay pertinent information to nursing staff.

Clinical Support & Mobility

• Support the escort of patients within the clinical setting.
• Perform manual handling tasks, such as patient transfers and mobility, based on competency and experience.
• Support patients during physical, occupational, or speech therapy sessions as directed by healthcare professionals.

Patient Environment & Safety

• Maintain cleanliness in patient rooms and ensure a safe environment conducive to recovery.
• Stock patient rooms with appropriate supplies and ensure medical equipment is cleaned and maintained as required.
• Respond promptly to emergency situations and initiate assistance following established policies and procedures.

Social & Quality of Life

• Engage in play activities with pediatric patients under the supervision and guidance of licensed nurses and therapists, where appropriate.
• Participate in patients' social activities to enhance their quality of life.

Housekeeping & Family Support

• Assist patients and their families with housekeeping, laundry services, food preparation, and errands as needed.

Performance & Improvement

• Identify opportunities for improvement and escalate accordingly reflective of the chain of command.
• Contribute to performance improvement and continuous quality improvement initiatives within the healthcare setting.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned within scope and ability.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum qualification: Certification in Nursing Assistant (minimum 6-month course) or a Nursing graduate without a home country license.
• One year working experience in a healthcare environment.
• Valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider qualification.

Skills & Competencies

• Communicate clearly and effectively in English (spoken and written).
• Ability to communicate effectively in Arabic (desirable).
