The role sits within the College of International Transport & Logistics and supports the Maritime Logistics and Supply Chain Management Program. The Academy is aligned with the UAE Maritime Vision and evolving global shipping industry priorities.

Role Purpose

Lead postgraduate teaching, applied research, and industry engagement in maritime shipping management. Develop and deliver high-quality academic programs in shipping operations, fleet management, maritime economics, finance, and regulation while conducting research-informed teaching and contributing to the Academy's research profile and international reputation.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning Delivery

• Teach postgraduate courses in Maritime Economics and Commercial, Maritime Safety and Risk Management Systems, Maritime Law Regulation and Compliance, Shipping Operations and Fleet Management, Shipping Finance and Global Risk Management, Shipping Strategy and Policy, Port or Shipping Agency, Port Customs Regulations, and related maritime shipping disciplines as assigned by the Head.
• Deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, workshops, simulations, case studies, and applied learning activities using innovative and effective pedagogical approaches.
• Provide timely, constructive, formative, and comprehensive feedback to students using appropriate communication channels and learning technologies.
• Deliver courses and contribute to interdisciplinary teaching activities across other academic departments when required by the Line Manager.

Postgraduate Supervision & Assessment

• Supervise postgraduate dissertations, applied research projects, industry projects, internships, and capstone projects in shipping operations, fleet management, maritime economics, shipping finance, maritime risk, shipping strategy, and maritime regulation.
• Participate in all aspects of assessment, including examination setting, moderation, marking, viva examinations, project evaluation, and the development of innovative assessment methods that enhance student learning outcomes.
• Serve as Academic Advisor and mentor to students, supporting their academic, professional, and personal development.

Research & Scholarly Activity

• Conduct high-quality research in areas such as shipping operations, fleet management, maritime economics, shipping finance, maritime safety and risk, shipping strategy and policy, digital shipping, sustainability, and maritime regulation, contributing to the Academy's research strategy and international reputation.
• Contribute to the development of the Academy's research profile through high-quality publications, collaborative research projects, conference participation, and external research funding applications.
• Publish scholarly work in high-impact journals and actively pursue research grants, consultancy projects, and industry-funded initiatives.

Curriculum & Program Development

• Contribute to curriculum development, course review, program enhancement, accreditation activities, and institutional quality assurance initiatives.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in shipping operations, fleet management, maritime economics and finance, safety and risk management, digital shipping, sustainability, and international maritime regulations to support research-informed teaching.

Governance & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with academic regulations, quality assurance requirements, program specifications, timetables, and the annual academic calendar.
• Participate actively in departmental, college, and institutional committees, meetings, and academic governance activities.

Stakeholder Engagement

• Assist the Head of Maritime Logistics and Supply Chain Management Program in achieving the Academy's strategic, academic, research, and industry engagement objectives.
• Represent the Academy at conferences, professional events, industry forums, and external stakeholder engagements.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Education

• PhD in Shipping Management, Maritime Management, Maritime Economics, Maritime Operations, Shipping Finance, or a closely related discipline.

Essential Experience

• Minimum of 10 years post-PhD (including at least 5 years at the rank of Associate Professor or equivalent) for appointment as Professor, or a PhD with a minimum of 5 years at the rank of Assistant Professor or equivalent for appointment as Associate Professor, from a recognized university.
• Minimum of 10 years of teaching experience at the rank of Assistant Professor or above, acquired after obtaining the PhD.
• Postgraduate teaching experience in Shipping Operations, Fleet Management, Maritime Economics, Shipping Finance, Maritime Risk Management, Maritime Law, and related maritime disciplines.
• Relevant industry experience in shipping companies, ship management, fleet operations, chartering, maritime finance, maritime authorities, or maritime consultancy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional maritime or shipping certification or recognized qualification relevant to shipping operations and management.
• Recognized qualification for teaching in Higher Education.
• Membership or Fellowship of a relevant professional body from Maritime/Shipping.

Preferred Experience

• Experience supervising postgraduate dissertations, applied research projects, and capstone projects.
• Demonstrated research capability through publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
• Experience in curriculum development, course leadership, and academic program enhancement.
• Familiarity with international maritime regulations and industry standards, including SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ISPS Code, and related IMO instruments.
• Familiarity with CAA standards, quality assurance processes, and accreditation requirements in the UAE.
• Familiarity with learning technologies, Learning Management Systems (LMS), online assessment platforms, and academic integrity tools.
• Experience with digital shipping technologies, fleet management systems, maritime simulation systems, and emerging technologies relevant to the shipping sector.

• Knowledge of Digital Shipping, Fleet Management Systems, AI, automation, sustainability, ESG, and maritime decarbonization.
• Knowledge of research methods, postgraduate supervision, academic standards, and evidence-based decision-making.
