Associate Electrical Engineer

Role Overview

Associate Electrical Engineer at McDermott. The position is based in Washington state.

Role Purpose

The Associate Electrical Engineer utilizes existing electrical procedures to solve routine or standard problems while receiving instruction, guidance, and direction from experienced team members. The role leverages conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures related to electrical engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Analysis

• Perform detailed design engineering, analysis, and calculations on basic engineering tasks.
• Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses, including design reports and procedures.
• Apply knowledge and skills to complete routine assignments under the close supervision and mentoring of an experienced engineer.
• Prepare sketches of detailed design to guide Designers.

Power Systems and Equipment

• Perform calculations for the power distribution system.
• Make sizing calculations of electrical equipment and components.
• Produce consumer lists from available equipment data.
• Make electrical one-line diagrams.

Documentation and Systems

• Populate electrical items in electrical databases like SPEL.
• Check drawings.
• Requisition and specify simple bulk materials, including TBE and SDR.

Compliance and Procedures

• Be familiar with company procedures, work instructions, guidelines, and standards for work to be performed and ask guidance where required.
• Learn the content and application of standards, codes, and guidelines as applicable.
• Learn design techniques and analysis methods.

Project and Stakeholder Management

• Gain an understanding of the project scope of work, specifications, schedule, and all inter-discipline requirements.
• Keep the Lead Engineer apprised of all activities, progress, and concerns.
• Organize own work to meet deadlines set by others.
• Communicate information, asking questions, and checking for understanding.

Business Development

• Develop an awareness of costs related to own work.
• Develop a basic understanding of McDermott's business and the customers it serves.
• Develop basic knowledge of McDermott's business units and interactions, including engineering and fabrication.
• Develop advanced skills in the use of standard productivity tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Engineering.
• 0–3 years of experience in oil and gas.
• Preferably a Registered Engineer in Training (EIT) or member of a professional engineering society.

Additional Information

• Reports to: Project Lead Engineer; Functional: Supervising Department Manager.
• Liaise With: Engineers, Design Supervisors, and Designers of their own discipline.
