Associate Director, FX & Rates Trading

Role Overview

Associate Director, FX & Rates Trading at First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), reporting to the Currency Head. The role is based in the MENA region and involves managing foreign exchange and rates flow across multiple currencies on the G10 FX & Rates desk.

Role Purpose

To join a dynamic FX & Rates trading desk, manage customer flow and measured risk across multiple currencies, support sales activities, and generate alpha through directional positioning while contributing to FAB's position as a top market maker in the MENA region.

Key Responsibilities

Risk & Portfolio Management

• Manage risk within given parameters in a profitable manner.
• Maintain a high degree of discipline when trading.
• Demonstrate capability of handling large flows and risk.
• Leverage customer flow actively and position the portfolio to add alpha.

Pricing & Deal Execution

• Price deals with the mentality to win business and support the business.
• Execute trades with internal and external customers.

Market Development & Positioning

• Contribute to maintaining FAB's position as a top market maker in the MENA region.
• Generate trade ideas and write market updates.
• Prepare marketing material and collaborate with distribution.

Stakeholder Communication

• Market counterparties daily via verbal, written, and in-person communication to provide pricing, market products and capabilities, and execute trades.
• Provide regular internal communication via verbal, written, and in-person methods to deliver pricing, execute trades, and give market commentary and viewpoint on market conditions.
• Provide ad hoc support to respective Institutional Client Management (ICC) Relationship Managers in enhancing client relationships via verbal, written, and in-person communication.

Operations

• Cover long shifts as required.
• Travel where necessary.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree level qualification, ideally BSc or BA in Finance, Economics, or Science.
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in markets.
• Experience in Emerging Markets (EM) space, ideally in Sub-Saharan Africa and Egypt.
• Proven track record of teamwork.
• Proven track record of managing risk effectively and delivering consistent financial performance.
