Role Overview

Assistant Manager - Credit Analysis at Emirates Islamic Bank, based in the United Arab Emirates. This role supports the credit analysis function within corporate banking, focusing on credit risk assessment, loan underwriting, and portfolio monitoring.

Role Purpose

Support the business to generate maximum yield within risk appetite and client selection criteria by assessing risk, pricing risk, and ensuring accurate documentation and fee collection. Address customer needs and requirements in a timely manner to gain maximum wallet share while maintaining portfolio quality and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Credit Proposal Development

  • Collaborate with Relationship Managers on an ongoing basis to discuss and structure credit that best fits the bank's risk appetite and acceptability criteria.
  • Propose facility structure, covenants, and conditions ensuring balance between client needs and the bank's credit risk appetite in consultation with the RM.
  • Assess client risk profile and proposal identifying key topics and questions to be covered in the write-up.
  • Complete FA in relevant approval systems filling in required information including client details, collateral, and facilities.
  • Advise on capital optimization alternate strategies based on risk measures, including appropriate limits, collateral, and pricing.
  • Prepare FA summary and write-up.
  • Occasionally join RMs in client meetings to ask key credit questions.
  • Calculate client's risk grade leveraging the bank's models.
  • Liaise with Credit on FA and other credit issues ensuring quick turnaround on queries.
  • Attend weekly meetings with RM, Team Leaders, and GCD as required.

Credit Risk Assessment

  • Analyse financial statements and credit data to determine creditworthiness of corporate clients.
  • Apply internal credit rating models and risk assessment frameworks in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Identify potential credit risks and flag deviations from credit policy for managerial review.
  • Prepare detailed credit reports summarizing findings and recommendations for approval committees.
  • Test covenants of clients in the portfolio.
  • Test financial triggers for watch-listed clients.
  • Monitor exception reports.
  • Assist RMs and SRMs in regular account risk monitoring based on established guidance.

Client Documentation

  • Collaborate and coordinate with Documentation Team to produce correct documentation for the customer in an efficient manner.
  • Minimize rework and re-presentation of documentation.
  • Work closely with RM team to ensure minimal document deficiency.
  • Review loan applications against credit risk criteria to ensure compliance with underwriting standards.
  • Coordinate with Relationship Managers to gather necessary documentation and clarify credit terms.
  • Validate collateral valuations and ensure proper documentation is in place for secured loans.
  • Assist in structuring loan proposals that align with the bank's risk appetite and regulatory guidelines.

Loan Underwriting Support

  • Review loan applications against credit risk criteria ensuring compliance with underwriting standards.
  • Coordinate with Relationship Managers to gather necessary documentation and clarify credit terms.
  • Validate collateral valuations and ensure proper documentation is in place for secured loans.
  • Assist in structuring loan proposals that align with the bank's risk appetite and regulatory guidelines.

Credit File Maintenance

  • Maintain in-house discipline towards filing, DDR, and covenant monitoring.
  • Regularize excesses or one-offs and follow up for regularization of all deferrals and waivers.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of credit files to verify adherence to internal control standards.
  • Identify and report discrepancies or gaps in credit documentation and risk assessments.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

  • Implement feedback from compliance reviews to enhance credit assessment accuracy.

Customer Service and Collaboration

  • Ensure top-class customer service by coordinating with Coverage, GCD, and CRAD to resolve queries and process requests in a timely manner.
  • Share insights on credit risk trends and emerging regulatory changes within the team.
  • Assist peers in interpreting credit policies and applying risk assessment tools correctly.
  • Contribute to refining credit analysis templates and checklists to enhance efficiency.
  • Participate in training sessions to build collective expertise and maintain up-to-date skills.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • At least 7 years in corporate banking in a relationship or credit risk management role.
  • Professional accounting certification such as CFA Level 1 or Credit Risk Certification preferred; holders of professional accounting certification will have first priority.
  • Continuous professional development in credit risk management and regulatory compliance.
