Role Overview
AFL Teacher at International Schools Partnership, a permanent position within the Academic Department reporting to the Head of Arabic.
Role Purpose
To deliver high-quality Arabic language instruction to IB Arabic B and Ab students, fostering their progress and outcomes while establishing a safe, stimulating learning environment rooted in mutual respect and aligned with IB pedagogy.
Key Responsibilities
Learning and Teaching
- Set high expectations that inspire, motivate and challenge pupils.
- Establish a safe and stimulating environment for pupils rooted in mutual respect.
- Set goals that stretch and challenge pupils of all backgrounds, abilities and dispositions.
- Demonstrate consistently the positive attitudes, values and behaviour expected of pupils.
- Be accountable for pupils' attainment, progress and outcomes.
- Guide pupils to reflect on the progress they have made and their emerging needs.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of how pupils learn and how this impacts on teaching.
- Encourage pupils to take a responsible and conscientious attitude to their own work and study.
- Support IB Arabic B and Ab students to reach their potential in IB Group 2.
Subject and Curriculum Knowledge
- Possess secure knowledge of relevant subject(s) and curriculum areas.
- Foster and maintain pupils' interest in the subject and address misunderstandings.
- Demonstrate critical understanding of developments in the subject and curriculum areas.
- Promote the value of scholarship.
- Have knowledge of IB Arabic and understanding of Arabic B and Arabic Ab syllabuses.
- Demonstrate understanding of and take responsibility for promoting high standards of literacy, articulacy and the correct use of standard English.
Lesson Planning and Delivery
- Impart knowledge and develop understanding through effective use of lesson time.
- Promote a love of learning and children's intellectual curiosity.
- Plan well-structured lessons.
- Set homework and plan other out-of-class activities to consolidate and extend knowledge and understanding.
- Reflect systematically on the effectiveness of lessons and approaches to teaching.
- Contribute to the design and provision of an engaging curriculum within relevant subject areas.
- Contribute to the development of schemes of work and department resources.
- Embed IB pedagogy in lesson planning and delivery.
Differentiation and Inclusive Teaching
- Know when and how to differentiate appropriately, using approaches which enable pupils to be taught effectively.
- Have secure understanding of how a range of factors can inhibit pupils' ability to learn and how best to overcome these.
- Demonstrate awareness of the physical, social and intellectual development of children.
- Adapt teaching to support pupils' education at different stages of development.
- Have clear understanding of the needs of all pupils, including those with special educational needs, those of high ability, those with English as an additional language, those with disabilities.
- Use and evaluate distinctive teaching approaches to engage and support all learners.
- Maintain well-developed working knowledge of IB Arabic.
Assessment
- Know and understand how to assess relevant subject and curriculum areas, including internal and external assessment requirements.
- Make use of formative and summative assessment to secure pupils' progress.
- Use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets and plan subsequent lessons.
- Give pupils regular feedback, both orally and through accurate marking.
- Encourage pupils to respond to feedback.
- Demonstrate confidence with IB assessments.
- Have experience of IB oral assessments.
Behaviour Management
- Establish clear rules and routines for behaviour in classrooms.
- Take responsibility for promoting good and courteous behaviour both in classrooms and around the school in accordance with the school's behaviour policy.
- Establish high expectations of behaviour and a framework for discipline with a range of strategies.
- Use praise, sanctions and rewards consistently and fairly.
- Manage classes effectively using approaches appropriate to pupils' needs in order to involve and motivate them.
- Maintain good relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority and act decisively when necessary.
Professional Responsibilities
- Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.
- Fulfil extra-curricular activity expectations and other out-of-hours requirements.
- Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues.
- Know how and when to draw on advice and specialist support.
- Deploy support staff effectively.
- Take responsibility for improving teaching through appropriate professional development.

- Contribute fully to the extra-curricular program within the department.
- Assist in the organization and running of curriculum days.

Health and Safety
- Emphasize the importance of safety in all areas of the curriculum.
- Communicate to pupils the importance of a responsible attitude towards personal safety, the safety of others and respect for school property and equipment.
- Perform playground duties on time and with due diligence to safeguard students.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Ensure that all necessary health and safety rules and procedures are being followed.
- Maintain awareness of all health and safety measures to be taken when in school.
- Be fully aware of Health and Safety across the school.
General Duties
- Complete all other tasks that can be reasonably expected of a teacher.
- Demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct within and outside school.
- Treat pupils with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect and observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher's professional position.

- Perform any other duties that the Principal may ask the post-holder to perform.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in teaching from an accredited institution.
- Required teaching certification for Qatar MOEHE.
- Meet professional teacher education requirements of the school.
- Child Care and Protection certification.
- Minimum 3 years' relevant experience.
- Ideally previous experience of teaching IB Arabic A, B or Ab at IBDP level.
- English mandatory.
