Role Overview

2nd Officer for Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger with NMDC Group.

Role Purpose

Responsible for safe navigational watchkeeping and assisting the Master in the safe operation of the Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger, including monitoring vessel position, depth, navigation systems and coordination with the dredging team during all operations.

Key Responsibilities

Navigation & Watchkeeping

• Conduct safe navigational watchkeeping in accordance with COLREGs, company procedures and Master's standing orders.
• Maintain proper lookout and navigate safely during all voyage phases.
• Operate and monitor ECDIS, radar, GPS, AIS, echo sounder and other navigational equipment.
• Monitor vessel position, depth, under-keel clearance and safe navigation during dredging and dumping operations.
• Assist the Master during port entry and exit, berthing, unberthing, anchoring and restricted-water navigation.

Planning & Operations

• Assist in planning and executing dredging, sailing and transit operations in coordination with the Dredge Master and bridge team.
• Ensure proper preparation and updating of passage plans, navigational charts, publications and relevant electronic databases.
• Support safe deck operations, including mooring, anchoring, dredging and hopper-related activities as required.

Records & Documentation

• Maintain accurate deck, navigation, position and dredging-related records and logbooks.

Equipment & Systems

• Conduct regular checks of bridge equipment, navigation lights, signals and safety and navigation systems.
• Assist in implementation of the vessel's SMS, ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, COLREGs and Flag and Classification requirements.

Crew Supervision & Safety

• Supervise and guide junior deck crew during assigned operations and maintain good housekeeping and safety standards.
• Participate in emergency drills and take assigned responsibilities during fire, abandon-ship, grounding and other emergencies.

Communication & Reporting

• Maintain effective communication with the Dredge Master, Chief Officer, engine room and shore operations team to ensure safe and uninterrupted dredging operations.
• Report navigational hazards, equipment defects, near misses and unsafe conditions promptly to the Master.

Qualifications & Experience

• Licensed as officer in charge of Navigation Watch.
• Basic and Advanced STCW training.
• ILO/MLC Medical fitness certificate.
