2ND ENGINEER

Role Overview

Second Engineer at NMDC Group. The role operates on vessels and tugs, managing engine room operations and marine machinery under the Chief Engineer's direction.

Role Purpose

Oversee day-to-day engine room operations, maintain vessel and deck machinery, and ensure all systems operate safely and efficiently within established parameters while supporting the Chief Engineer and broader organizational objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Engine Room Operations

• Manage day-to-day engine room operation.
• Assist the Chief Engineer in all day-to-day running of vessel, tug movements, activities and operations in accordance with NMDC regulations, policies and operating procedures.

Maintenance & Safety

• Ensure the maintenance of all engine room and deck machinery for smooth running of operations.
• Monitor all machineries and safety systems to confirm they are working safely, efficiently and within the provided parameters.

Stakeholder Management

• Investigate, understand and respond to the needs of internal and external stakeholders.
• Build and maintain strategically important client and contractor relations.
• Proactively serve and constructively respond to external client needs in order to meet business priorities.

Collaboration & Culture

• Initiate and stimulate teaming: horizontal cooperation between departments and vertical cooperation within different departments in the organization.
• Show respect, flexibility and loyalty towards colleagues throughout the organization.

Communication & Conflict Resolution

• Communicate clearly and succinctly orally and in writing. Adapt oral and written communication style to the audience.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum five years' sea-going experience.
• Degree or Diploma in Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent professional qualification.
• Certificate of Competency as 2E.
• Dynamic Positioning License.
