2ND ENGINEER

Role Overview

2nd Engineer for NMDC Group, based onboard a dredger vessel.

Role Purpose

Manage day-to-day engine room operations and assist the Chief Engineer in ensuring safe, efficient, and uninterrupted dredging operations. Supervise engine room personnel, plan maintenance, and operate all mechanical and hydraulic systems onboard.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Machinery Management

• Supervise daily operation and maintenance of main engines, generators, pumps, compressors, and auxiliary machinery.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical faults onboard.
• Monitor machinery performance, fuel consumption, lubrication, and cooling systems.
• Oversee maintenance and operation of dredging equipment including dredge pumps, winches, hydraulic systems, and pipelines.

Maintenance Planning & Execution

• Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance as per Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
• Maintain engine room logs, maintenance records, spare parts inventory, and technical reports.
• Assist Chief Engineer during dry docking, machinery overhauls, inspections, and audits.

Personnel & Safety Management

• Supervise engine room crew and ensure safe working practices are followed at all times.
• Conduct toolbox talks, emergency drills, and support vessel emergency response activities.
• Ensure proper housekeeping, safety, and environmental standards in engine room areas.

Compliance & Coordination

• Ensure compliance with ISM, MARPOL, SOLAS, Class, and Flag State requirements.
• Coordinate with deck department to support safe and efficient dredging operations.

Qualifications & Experience

• Certificate of Competency (COC) as 2nd Engineer.
• 5 years' experience onboard dredgers.
