Role Overview
Workshop Technician at Nabors. The role involves installation of top drive units and associated equipment at customer domestic and international locations, instructing and monitoring customer rig crews in proper setup, operation and removal of equipment to ensure safe and efficient use in onshore and offshore drilling.

Role Purpose
To perform technical installation, maintenance, and instructional services for top drive units and associated drilling equipment at customer locations worldwide, ensuring safe and efficient operation through proper setup, monitoring, and hands-on support of drilling rig crews.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Rig Up
- Load equipment from transport containers at customer location and prepare same to rig up the top drive unit in the derrick.
- Climb derrick to install the Torque Track system, ensuring appropriate torque is applied to all nuts and bolts.
- Use hoisting system to pick up Top Drive system and install the control panel and mud hoses, including hammer union tightening with 10–15-pound hammer.
- Install driller's control panel and run cables to power unit and top drive unit.
- Hook up fuel and air lines and power cables from drilling rig to power unit.
Testing & Commissioning
- Perform pre-established tests to ensure proper function of the top drive unit and make any necessary adjustments.
Operations & Training
- Instruct and monitor drillers and drilling crews in the safe operation of the top drive equipment.
Maintenance & Support
- Perform routine maintenance on the power and top drive units, including changing oils and filters, tightening bolts, changing parts, and repairing as necessary to maintain unit proper function.
Rig Down & Site Closure
- Upon completion of the well, reverse installation procedures and rig down hoses and control cables, top drive unit, torque track and driller's panel.
- Clean all equipment and load into storage container for transportation to next site.
Accountability & Compliance
- Perform duties in accordance with the company's policies, procedures, and quality objectives.
- Make decisions within scope of work and escalate issues as needed; collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure operational effectiveness.
- Ensure quality, accuracy, and timeliness of work; report any nonconformities or risks that may impact quality, legal compliance, safety, environment, or customer satisfaction.
- Support and participate in achieving organizational QHSE objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
- High School diploma required.
- Electrical or mechanical oilfield background required.
- EIT/MIT Technical Certification preferred.
- Technical training in the electrical hydraulic field would be an asset.
- Preferably 3 years drilling rig experience; 2 years as a Driller would be considered an asset.
- Preference given to those with Tesco/Canrig related equipment experience.
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to operate and repair electrical and/or hydraulic equipment.
- Ability to read, comprehend and write in English.
- Ability to effectively present technical information to colleagues, customers and vendors.
- Team player comfortable operating in remote locations.
