Role Overview
VP, International Finance at First Abu Dhabi Bank. The role is based in an international banking environment and reports to the International CFO, focusing on financial analysis, profitability optimization, and strategic business review support across the bank's international locations.
Role Purpose
To analyze International Banking business financials and identify opportunities for enhanced financial outcomes and continuous profitability improvement through reliable analytical insights and strategic financial governance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Analysis & Profitability Review
- Perform profitability analysis for International Banking by creating and maintaining analysis models to discover profit drivers.
- Analyze which customer segments, sectors, products, and locations are profitable.
- Deliver analysis outcomes focused on "why" and "how" profitability and costs are impacted.
- Perform ad hoc analysis to address specific business questions and predict possible future financial scenarios.
- Create analytical reporting for International to present key analysis on profitability and returns, covering products, segments, countries, corridors, key clients, and key general ledgers.
Month-End Review Insight & Analysis
- Review and analyze International financial results by key trends and drivers, covering products, segments, countries, corridors, key clients, and key general ledgers.
- Regularly assess and investigate the integrity of financial information reported by countries from accounting, tax, regulatory, and headquarters versus country requirement perspectives.
- Connect with Product and Segment Finance teams to ensure product and segmental financials related to International locations are explained.
- Connect with country Finance teams to ensure geographical financials are reviewed and explained.
- Review and raise questions to country Finance teams on abnormal trending and large movements.
- Provide process and technical guidance to country Finance teams to review key trends and drivers.
- Ensure country Finance teams provide explanations on key trends and drivers with supporting materials.
- Connect country Finance teams with relevant headquarters and Group functions on financial results clarification and reporting data issues resolution.
- Highlight any issues with country financial results and coordinate with product and country finance teams to remediate.
Analytical Reporting & Customer Analysis
- Establish customer financial analysis models and provide key analysis as a regular monthly deliverable.
- Connect with the International Management Information & Performance Management team and country Finance teams to productionize a monthly customer financial analytical management information pack.
- Enable country-level business review by international management and Group senior stakeholders.
Strategy & Business Review
- Participate actively in country business review and International business review by providing strategic inputs on key analysis outcomes, including key trends and drivers by products, segments, countries, corridors, key clients, and key general ledgers.
- Deliver analytics to shape country and business strategy through reliable, factual analysis outcomes rather than intuition.
- Input to country strategy and performance review with key indicators on profitability and costs for target customer segments, products, and locations.
- Be the Primary Point of Contact representing the International CFO to support various optimization and transformation initiatives relevant to International Banking.
- Prepare or critique business cases or initiatives aimed at enhancing country and International performance.
Governance & Financial Framework Support
- Support the International CFO in implementing a strong business financial review governance framework across international locations encompassing performance reviews, country strategy, capital accumulation growth rate projections, low return client analysis, and optimization initiatives.
- Provide strategic review and analytical input to development of International Management Information & Performance and International Financial Governance teams.
- Support the management information reporting framework and financial governance framework implementation within countries.
- Connect country Finance teams with International Management Information & Performance and International Financial Governance teams and relevant Group Finance teams on issues pertaining to management information, financial planning and analysis, budgets, financial control, taxation.
- Provide input from regular financial assessment and investigation.
Capital, Financial, Regulatory & Taxation Reporting Support
- Connect with country Finance teams, Group Finance and Control, Group Tax, and Group Capital Management to support where headquarters input is required on Group's capital and financial analysis and tax impact analysis.
- Participate actively in country Asset Liability Committee forums and other such forums as required.
Transformation & Continuous Improvement
- Seek to identify and recommend changes that improve international profitability and returns, including suggestions on cost saves, risk-weighted asset optimization, expected credit loss model review to enhance clarity of cost of risk and impairments, and tax analysis.
Additional Governance & Support Responsibilities
- Provide strategic review and analytical input to development of International Management Information & Performance and International Financial Governance teams.
- Be ready and able to act as a Country Chief Financial Officer on an interim basis if circumstances require, to provide additional hands-on finance expertise to countries when required by strategic initiatives and executive management decisions.
- Be ready and able to provide hands-on full-time equivalent capacity to regional and country finance projects with heavy workloads, staff absence, cross-training, and contingency planning.
- When requested or necessary, provide thought leadership to country finance teams in subject matters covering the full spectrum of Group Finance activity including financial planning and analysis, business partnering, treasury, financial reporting, tax, and control.
Qualifications & Experience
Education
- Degree with professional qualifications such as ACA, CPA, or MBA.
- Relevant accounting or tax qualification preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 10–12 years of experience covering finance, business partnering, financial planning and analysis, audit, and tax functions in a banking environment.
- Banking and financial services industry experience required.
- Good accounting principles knowledge.
- General corporate tax and transfer pricing experience preferred.
- Some knowledge of information technology systems and use of tax accounting systems.
- Work experience across a number of countries preferred.
