VP, FP&A Business Finance - Islamic Banking

Role Overview

Vice President, FP&A Business Finance – Islamic Banking at First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), based in Abu Dhabi.

Role Purpose

To serve as the primary finance business partner for FAB's Islamic Banking Business, providing strategic financial insights, business analysis, and advisory support to enable informed decision-making. The role combines business finance partnership, strategic planning, performance management, and financial control oversight while mentoring junior team members and supporting systems implementation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Business Finance Partnership

• Act as a trusted finance advisor and business finance partner to Islamic Banking Business heads on business performance and strategic issues.
• Provide objective, value-added commentary and insights on financial performance across Islamic Banking Businesses.
• Deliver in-depth business insights and information to support strategic decision-making.
• Support and lead regular performance reviews conducted with the business.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Manage the preparation of monthly management reporting packs.
• Ensure accurate and timely MI reporting to assist business partners and management in decision-making with detailed analysis covering revenue, costs, balance sheet lines, AUM balances and key ratios.
• Prepare detailed customer-wise profitability and margin analysis by segment and product.
• Prepare rolling forecasts in collaboration with business and product heads in the UAE and relevant international locations.
• Prepare ad-hoc reports and analysis to drive improved business performance and enable better decision-making.
• Act as liaison with Group FP&A to ensure accurate product and line of business data for upstream data integrity.

Budget & Performance Management

• Support the annual budget exercise and monitor financial performance versus budget.
• Review budgets for key strategic projects and change management initiatives for Islamic Banking and NHL, and ensure they are effectively managed and monitored across teams.
• Monitor the performance of Islamic Banking and use MI reports to enhance performance and aid strategic decision-making as well as manage areas of under-performance.
• Identify areas of concern as well as opportunities and initiatives for growth.

Financial Control & Risk Management

• Support managing various financial control and risk management dimensions for the business.
• Assess and ensure transparency in the financial performance of the business divisions.
• Identify key risks within Islamic Banking Businesses, particularly financial, and coordinate relevant stakeholders to put in place appropriate risk mitigation plans.
• Ensure risks are incorporated into the business planning and strategy phases.
• Support managing external and internal audit requirements and successfully address all audit findings and recommendations implementation.

Regulatory & Compliance

• Ensure disclosure of financial performance meets regulatory requirements and other relevant standards including accounting and governance standards.
• Support Group Finance functions on matters associated with Islamic Banking, specifically for financial and regulatory reporting, treasury matters, financial performance management and analysis, tax and financial control.
• Provide advice to relevant business teams on new and existing products, processes and business arrangements relating to financial and regulatory reporting compliance.

Treasury & Capital Management

• Coordinate with Group Treasury on FTP, balance sheet, capital and liquidity management matters affecting the Business and pricing.

Systems & Transformation

• Support systems implementation of relevant finance projects in partnership with other stakeholders from Group Finance, business teams and technology partners.

Team Leadership & Development

• Manage and mentor junior team members.
• Contribute towards the learning and development of junior team members to enable them to perform their roles in an effective manner.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Banking and Finance.
• Accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, or CA.
• Approximately 10 years of working experience within FP&A and/or Business Finance areas in the banking industry.
• Good understanding of international accounting standards including IFRS and IAS.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong analytical and organizational skills with ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong ability to communicate with senior stakeholders clearly and effectively.
• Strong analytical, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
• Basic understanding of T24, OBIEE, OneSumX and Power BI.
