Role Overview

Therapist III - Respiratory at Sidra Medicine. This is an expert-level clinical position providing advanced respiratory therapy services for pediatric and neonatal patients in a tertiary care setting.

Role Purpose

Deliver advanced respiratory therapeutic, diagnostic, and interventional care to pediatric and neonatal patients while supervising junior staff, participating in departmental leadership, and maintaining the highest clinical standards.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment and Care Delivery

• Review patient medical history and conduct assessments of pathophysiological condition.
• Recommend appropriate care based on patient assessment findings.
• Provide cardiorespiratory-related diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
• Assess and document patient response to interventions in a timely and accurate manner.
• Provide basic to advanced techniques in airway management.
• Initiate, monitor, and assess ventilator and technology-dependent patients on an outlined basis.
• Recommend and administer individualized medical gas therapies.
• Ensure effective communication during handover and end-of-shift report to meet continuity of care needs.

Clinical Operations and Quality Assurance

• Set up and perform quality control procedures on respiratory and laboratory equipment.
• Operate respiratory and laboratory equipment, making adjustments as necessary.
• Obtain and maintain all clinical core competencies of the Respiratory Therapy Services department.
• Maintain up-to-date mandatory Life Support Training requirements as directed by MoPH and Sidra, including BLS and AED.
• Participate in Quality Assurance, Utilization Review, and Performance Improvement activities as required.
• Uphold department-mandated documentation standards in a timely and accurate manner.
• Follow all hospital-related policies and procedures.
• Participate in the development of evidence-based policies and procedures relevant to Respiratory Therapy as needed.

Supervision and Teaching

• Acts in the role of Preceptor and Mentor for oncoming staff and students in all areas of clinical care.
• Provide unit-based specialty leadership and direction in the performance of basic and advanced clinical procedures and interventions.
• Assume the role of Charge Respiratory Therapist in the absence of Respiratory Therapy Supervisor presence or availability on shift.
• Uphold and keep staff accountable to departmental and hospital regulations.
• Engage the on-call Supervisor in instances of uncertainty.
• Assume a leadership role within the department by modeling expert behaviors and advocating for the Respiratory Therapy profession within the multidisciplinary setting.
• Participate in the promotion and maintenance of effective communication and teamwork.

Education and Professional Development

• Participate in education of patients, families, and the public.
• Attend departmental staff meetings and education days to provide and exchange information.
• Participate in departmental and organizational committees, quality improvement projects, and change initiatives as assigned.

• Collaborate with all medical, nursing, and ancillary stakeholders to ensure a safe, clean, and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
• Treat colleagues, patients, and visitors with dignity and respect at all times.

Emergency Response

• Provide emergency care as a member of Resuscitation, Rapid Response, and Transport Team as required.

Additional Duties

• Perform other duties as assigned in view of evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

• 3-year Diploma in Respiratory Therapy, or
• 2+ years Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy, or
• Equivalent qualification

Experience

• 5+ years of recent clinical experience within Respiratory Therapy.
• 3+ years of that experience in a Neonatal or Pediatric tertiary-level care facility.

Certification and Licensure

• Current registration and license from Country of Origin where applicable.
• Eligible for licensure with the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners.

Skills & Competencies

• Expert knowledge of Pediatric and/or Neonatal cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology.
• Expert knowledge and clinical acumen in the use of all medical devices and techniques used in respiratory therapy for Pediatric and/or Neonatal patient populations.
• Advanced level professional skills in patient assessment, disease identification, and evaluation.
• Effective communication skills.

• Motivated and enthusiastic.
• Ability to critically analyze situations, make autonomous decisions, and resolve problems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Fluency in written and spoken English.
