Technician - Sterile Processing Department

Role Overview

Technician - Sterile Processing Department at Sidra Medicine, located in Qatar. This role reprocesses all reusable instrumentation, including flexible endoscopes, through disassembly, decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization. The Technician also picks consumable supplies for surgical procedures and assembles them with instrumentation into case carts.

Role Purpose

To safely reprocess and sterilize reusable medical instrumentation and prepare sterile supplies and case carts for surgical procedures, while maintaining rigorous sterile assurance practices and supporting departmental quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Instrumentation Reprocessing

• Disassemble reusable instrumentation including flexible endoscopes.
• Perform decontamination of instruments.
• Conduct inspection of reprocessed items.
• Assemble instruments following standardized protocols.
• Package instruments for sterilization.
• Perform sterilization processes.
• Rotate through the reprocessing unit that cleans and high-level disinfects flexible scopes in the Endoscopy Suite area of Special Procedures.

Supply Management & Case Cart Assembly

• Pick consumable supplies for surgical procedures.
• Assemble consumable supplies and instrumentation into case carts.
• Receive, fill, and deliver urgent and routine requests for medical devices, supplies, and equipment as required.
• Transport sterile goods to clinical areas.
• Return contaminated goods from clinical areas.
• Solve critical problems and resolve issues with supply and demand of stock levels.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Maintain sterile assurance practices and protocols with high diligence in delivery of safe patient goods.
• Participate in all aspects of quality assurance processes.
• Act as a user of the T-Doc software.
• Perform internal audits as required.
• Play an active role in departmental quality assurance and reprocessing performance monitoring.
• Support standardization initiatives based on best practice.
• Adhere to Sidra's standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.
• Adhere to and promote Sidra's Values.

Policy & Procedure Management

• Follow departmental policies and procedures.
• Provide input into policy review and revision process.
• Follow established departmental protocols.
• Ensure that staff members adhere to hospital and departmental policy and procedures.

Leadership & Communication

• Inform leadership team of challenges and issue resolution related to scope of responsibility.
• Deal with service complaints in a professional manner.

Training & Development

• Mentor new staff in departmental standardized procedures.
• Maintain yearly recertification as required.

Flexibility

• Perform other duties as assigned in view of evolving needs and opportunities within Sidra.
• Reporting relationships may vary as needed.

Qualifications & Experience

• High School Diploma.
• 2+ years as SPD technician in a large medical center.
• Case cart experience.
• Current registration and license from country of origin where applicable.
• Eligible for licensure with the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners.
