Role Overview
Team Leader - Dubai & Abu Dhabi at Al Tayer Group, Dubai, UAE. The role is responsible for planning, organizing and managing daily maintenance and repair of customers' vehicles, ensuring high quality of workmanship that meets manufacturer standards and customer satisfaction.
Role Purpose
To lead a vehicle maintenance and repair team, optimize labor utilization and workflow efficiency, ensure on-time vehicle delivery, maintain quality standards aligned with manufacturer requirements, and foster a safe and productive workshop environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Workflow Management
- Allocate jobs based on job cards received to the team to achieve maximum labor utilization.
- Control and monitor work in progress at the shop floor to ensure staff efficiency and productivity so that jobs are completed within the committed delivery time.
- Ensure technicians clock in and out correctly in the system.
- Follow up on each repair and advise the technician about the schedule time and completion date to secure team effort for timely vehicle delivery.
- Road test vehicles when peculiar problems are noticed to ensure proper repair and verify quality meets required standards.
Quality Assurance & Technical Standards
- Ensure repair order write-ups of technicians meet manufacturer audit requirements.
- Prepare repair requests for additional work and ensure repair orders are correctly transcribed.
- Allocate specialist technicians to ensure excellent workmanship and quality repairs.
- Provide guidance on repair methods, parts supply and monitor delays in repairs as necessary.
- Monitor quality of repairs to ensure compliance with required standards.
Team Development & Performance
- Upgrade technical knowledge through web-based courses and classroom training.
- Evaluate and monitor performance of subordinates against set standards.
- Identify necessary training needs and follow up with Workshop Manager for delivery.
Parts & Supply Management
- Arrange parts when vehicles are delayed due to Parts Not Available (PNA) in the counter.
- Discuss with parts department and supervisor for further action, including recommendation of cannibalization from new vehicles depending upon urgency.
- Promptly communicate delays to Service Advisor or Controller.
Tools, Equipment & Safety
- Monitor tools, workshop equipment and shop consumables of the team to ensure availability and serviceability for prompt servicing of vehicles.
- Ensure company health and safety policies are followed.
- Keep all tools and equipment in good order.
- Maintain housekeeping standards to preserve a safe, healthy and productive working environment.
Costing & Administration
- Give clear instructions to costing clerk regarding jobs carried out, any deviations, and amounts to be charged to customers.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma in Mechanical or Automobile Technology.
- 5 to 8 years of experience in the automotive service field.
- 3 to 5 years in a team leader, section head or supervisor role.
