Role Overview
Teaching & Bus Assistant at International Schools Partnership. This role combines classroom support and student transportation duties.
Role Purpose
To provide comprehensive support to teachers in the classroom while ensuring safe and supervised transportation of students to and from school, prioritizing student welfare, safety, and positive learning experiences throughout all duties.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom & Lesson Support
- Contribute to lesson planning and assessment processes, including organization and management of books and files for individual children.
- Prepare materials and equipment for class lessons, group work, and individual student tasks.
- Lead and assist groups of children or individuals with their assigned tasks.
- Read stories to groups of children.
- Prepare ICT equipment including computers, iPads, digital cameras, DVDs, Bee Bots, and other technology.
- Prepare art and craft materials and tidy them away after use.
- Mount and display children's work appropriately.
- Laminate and photocopy materials and resources.
Supervision & Safeguarding
- Supervise children in cloakrooms, toilets, playtimes, and during start and home times, with particular attention to transition periods.
- Participate daily in the playground supervision rota during playtimes and supervise transition times at start and home time.
- Comfort young, distressed, and vulnerable children in accordance with safeguarding procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality about personal details revealed by children.
- Report incidents to the Teacher or Head of Early Years in accordance with the Safeguarding Policy.
- Maintain and promote the School's professional reputation.
Accompaniment & Support
- Accompany children on visits.
Equipment & Organization
- Label and store equipment appropriately.
Bus Operations
- Transport children to school by picking up students at assigned stops.
- Instruct children when it is safe to board the vehicle.
- Establish and follow loading and unloading procedures.
- Maintain safe conditions while traveling by enforcing safety and discipline rules and following all vehicle and driving laws as outlined by the School and Department of Transportation.
- Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections for safety and security, including inspection and documentation of vehicle logs prior to completing daily shift.
- Implement emergency procedures in the event of an accident.
- Appropriately administer to the needs of members on-board during emergencies.
- Administer first aid as required.
- Complete accident reports and documentation for all accidents or incidents occurring on the bus.
- Take daily attendance of students.
- Physically check the bus after every trip to ensure no child is left behind.
- Provide assistance to students in fastening seatbelts and ensure proper restraint throughout the journey.
- Ensure all students are seated at all times on the bus.
- Oversee student behavior within the bus and intervene during untoward incidents such as bullying.
- Report any delays in pickup or drop-off to parents.
- Prepare reports including attendance, schedules, and student information.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years' school experience as a bus assistant or teacher assistant.
Skills & Competencies
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent communication skills and command of the English language in spoken and written form.
- Strong sense of professionalism.
- Willing attitude to be part of the school team.
- Collaborative team-player with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Safeguarding and welfare of children awareness and commitment.
- Behavior management capability.
