Role Purpose
The Teaching Assistant & Bus Attendant supports the classroom teacher by handling tasks that free the teacher to focus on the learning agenda. The role provides human support and paraprofessional work assisting with instructional activities, reinforcing material already presented through special efforts and repetitions, and ensuring student safety during school transportation.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Support
- Organize, prepare and pass out project materials and set up audio equipment.
- Track attendance and maintain classroom supplies.
- Help children retrieve materials, clean up workspaces and gather belongings.
- Collect and display suitable material for educational displays.
- Decorate classrooms and corridors.
- Supervise snack time and related duties.
- Assist the classroom teacher and accept all duties assigned in support of teaching and learning.
- Perform office assistance tasks such as photocopying, filing and answering the telephone as required.
Health and Safety
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Assist in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
- Ensure that all necessary health and safety rules and procedures are followed in classrooms.
- Maintain awareness of all health and safety measures to be taken when in school.
- Report safeguarding issues to the transport manager, such as no authorized adult at collection point.
Bus Attendant Duties
- Monitor students and maintain order on the bus, including enforcement of seatbelt wearing at all times.
- Ensure the safety of each student at all times.
- Check attendance of students registered on the bus before departure and upon arrival at school.
- Inform the teacher and parent about any absences.
- Check the bus mobile for instructions from the Transport Manager or Coordinator.
- Collect and drop off KG1 to G2 students from their classrooms.
- Manage student behavior on the bus while en route to and from school.
- Report behavioral issues to the transport manager.
- Ensure students are seated and belted during travel in the school bus.
- Hand over students to an authorized adult at drop-off.
- Contact parents should the child not be at the collection point.
- Help students enter and exit the school bus with their authorized adult.
- Conduct checks at the end of every trip to ensure no students or their belongings are left inside the bus.
- Assist in handing over students to an authorized adult when dropping them home.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum high school diploma.
- 2 years' experience working as a teaching assistant or in any relevant role.

- General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in classroom teaching.
- Ability to deal effectively with students and teachers.
- Skilled in the use of classroom and instructional equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents and students.
