Role Purpose

Lead the Physics department to deliver the English National Curriculum with excellence, raise student achievement across all cohorts, implement effective teaching strategies, and foster a collaborative school environment aligned with Aldar's core values and regional ethos.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Department Development

• Develop and implement policies and practices for the department that reflect the school's vision, aims, commitment to high standards of achievement, and effective teaching and learning.
• Establish, monitor, and evaluate short, medium, and long-term plans for department development.
• Ensure appropriate and relevant schemes of work are developed, in place, and regularly reviewed and evaluated for all year groups and courses, including suitable provision for SEN/POD, G&T, and EAL students.

Student Progress & Achievement

• Use data effectively to identify students who are underachieving in the department and create and implement plans of action to support those students.
• Ensure curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression in the department for all students, including those of high ability and those with special educational needs.
• Analyse and interpret relevant school data to inform policies and department/school SEF writing.

Teaching & Learning Quality

• Set expectations for staff in relation to standards of achievement and the quality of teaching and learning and behaviour.
• Evaluate the quality of teaching and learning in the department and use this to identify effective practice and areas for improvement.
• Take action to further improve the quality of teaching and learning.

Enrichment & Co-Curricular

• Ensure the department regularly contributes towards the school's CAS Programme and after-school Booster/Revision Sessions for I/GCSE and IB DP courses.

Team & Resource Management

• Performance manage the team in accordance with school performance management policy.
• Ensure efficient and effective deployment of staff and resources.
• Maintain efficient and effective control of the Department's Resource and CapEx budgets.
• Effectively use accommodation to create an effective and stimulating environment for teaching and learning in accordance with the Learning Environment Policy.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Physics or related subject with PGCE or other recognized teacher qualification.
• Minimum of 6 years' teaching experience.
• Experience of the UK curriculum.

• Secure knowledge of teaching the English National Curriculum.
• Proven track record of implementing effective strategies to raise standards and plug gaps in learning to ensure outstanding progress for all.
• Leadership skills and experience at a variety of levels.
