Role Purpose

To deliver outstanding Music teaching in line with the English National Curriculum and GCSE standards, ensuring all students make excellent progress through effective planning, assessment, and differentiation. The role contributes to a school culture where achievement for pupils is at the heart of all work, supported by collaborative teamwork and commitment to the school's core values and ethos.

Key Responsibilities

Planning for Outstanding Teaching and Learning

• Create a climate for learning that is conducive for outstanding practice.
• Identify clear teaching and learning objectives.
• Set clear targets, building on prior attainment.
• Identify SEN (POD), EAL and G&T students and ensure their needs are met through differentiation.
• Provide clear structure and planning for lessons and learning activities that maintain pace, challenge and engagement.
• Make effective use of assessment for learning.
• Make effective use of performance data and key indicators to inform planning and deliver differentiated lessons.
• Make effective use of ICT to enhance learning and progress.

Behaviour and Standards

• Maintain discipline in accordance with the school's Behaviour for Learning Policy.
• Encourage good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework.

Assessment and Progress Tracking

• Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use findings to improve specific aspects of teaching and learning.
• Mark students' work regularly and set targets for progress in accordance with the school's Marking Policy.
• Assess and record students' progress systematically and keep records.
• Use performance data to inform planning, student learning and progress.
• Undertake assessment of students as requested by examination bodies, department and school procedures.

Reporting and Stakeholder Engagement

• Prepare and present informative reports to parents.
• Attend and support parent and student events.

Curriculum Development

• Take part in subject development by producing, reviewing and updating curriculum plans and schemes of work.

Collaboration

• Meet with other professionals such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and educational psychologists if required.

General Duties

• Undertake any other duties as assigned by the SLT.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in a related subject with PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Music Teacher in the English Curriculum.

Skills & Competencies

• Secure knowledge of teaching the English National Curriculum and GCSE.
• Experience of teaching students for whom English is not their first language (advantage).
• Proven track record of implementing effective strategies to raise standards and plug gaps in learning to ensure outstanding progress for all.
