Role Overview

Teacher - Biology at Yasmina British Academy in Abu Dhabi, a school within Aldar Education, starting January 2027.

Role Purpose

To deliver outstanding Biology education aligned with the English National Curriculum, lead departmental development and standards improvement, and ensure exceptional progress for all students through effective teaching strategies and collaborative leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum & Teaching

• Develop and implement policies and practices for the department that reflect the school's vision, aims, commitment to high standards of achievement, and effective teaching and learning.
• Ensure that appropriate and relevant schemes of work are developed, in place, and regularly reviewed and evaluated for all year groups and courses.
• Ensure schemes of work include suitable provision for SEN/POD, G&T, and EAL students.
• Ensure curriculum coverage, continuity and progression in the department for all students including those of high ability and those with special educational needs.
• Effectively use accommodation to create an effective and stimulating environment for teaching and learning in accordance with the Learning Environment Policy.

Student Achievement & Progress

• Use data effectively to identify students who are underachieving in the department.
• Create and implement plans of action to support underachieving students.
• Analyse and interpret relevant school data to inform policies and department/school SEF writing.
• Set expectations for staff in relation to standards of achievement and the quality of teaching and learning and behaviour.

Departmental Leadership & Development

• Establish, monitor and evaluate short, medium and long term plans for the development of the department.
• Evaluate the quality of teaching and learning in the department and use this to identify effective practice and areas for improvement.
• Take action to further improve the quality of teaching and learning.
• Performance manage team in accordance with school performance management policy.
• Ensure efficient and effective deployment of staff and resources.

Enrichment & Extended Learning

• Ensure the department is regularly contributing towards the school's CAS Programme and after school Booster/Revision Sessions for I/GCSE and IB DP courses.
• Demonstrate a commitment to an extensive enrichment programme.

Financial & Resource Management

• Maintain efficient and effective control of the Department's Resource and CapEx budgets.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Biology or a related subject with PGCE or other teacher qualification.
• Minimum of 6 years' teaching experience.
• Experience of the UK curriculum.

• Secure knowledge of teaching the English National Curriculum.
• Proven track record of implementing effective strategies to raise standards and plug gaps in learning.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and experience at a variety of levels.
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a team.
