Role Overview

Systems Engineer (Linux) at DeepSource Technologies, Riyadh, KSA. This role is for Saudi Nationals only.

Role Purpose

Oversee the configuration, installation, maintenance, and optimization of Unix operating systems and VCS clusters in large-scale data centre environments. Deliver proactive system management, security compliance, and rapid incident resolution while collaborating across IT teams.

Key Responsibilities

System Configuration & Maintenance

• Oversee the configuration, installation, and maintenance of Unix operating systems including AIX, Solaris, and HP-UX.
• Oversee the configuration, installation, and maintenance of VCS clusters.
• Manage migration, upgrade, and rebuild of legacy Linux servers from RHEL6 and RHEL7 to RHEL8.
• Test and upgrade VCS while producing detailed documentation for the team and stakeholders.
• Migrate VCS clusters including host-based and array-based migrations.

Patching & Security

• Apply patches and updates to ensure systems are up-to-date and secure.
• Patch Linux servers to remediate vulnerabilities.
• Implement and manage security measures to protect systems from vulnerabilities and threats.
• Ensure systems comply with organizational policies, industry regulations, and security best practices.

Performance & Optimization

• Monitor and optimize system performance, including configuring hardware, adjusting kernel parameters, and managing system resources.
• Implement monitoring tools and scripts in bash to proactively manage system health and performance.

Incident & Support Management

• Provide fast and effective business-as-usual support for incidents and requests.
• Investigate and resolve complex system issues, including hardware failures, software bugs, and performance bottlenecks.
• Provide root cause analysis and implement preventive measures.

Collaboration & Integration

• Work closely with other IT teams including network, database, and application teams to ensure seamless integration and support.
• Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues and stakeholders.

Documentation & Reporting

• Create and maintain detailed documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
• Generate reports on system performance, incidents, and maintenance activities.

Automation & Change Management

• Utilize automation tools and frameworks including Ansible, YAML, and Puppet to develop and maintain scripts for automation of routine tasks and system management.
• Work with change management processes and attend change board meetings.

Qualifications & Experience

• Extensive knowledge of RHEL6, RHEL7, and RHEL8 in large-scale data centre environments.
• Extensive knowledge of Veritas Cluster Server in Red Hat Linux environments, both physical and virtual, including Storage Foundation, Volume Manager, Veritas Infoscale, and Cluster File System.
• Previous exposure migrating VCS clusters.
• Experience with the operation of a large VMware infrastructure.

• Strong knowledge of Veritas Cluster Server.
• Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and stakeholders.
• Precision in managing system configurations and documentation.
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
• Bash scripting.

• Administration of Solaris and AIX.
• RHCSA or RHCE certification.
• ServiceNow or similar ITSM toolset for managing incidents, requests, and changes.
• Development tools such as Git and Gitlab.
