Role Overview
Structural Service Engineer at HMH Drilling Solutions. This role conducts category inspections onsite, inspects and supervises the quality of structural and piping components, and provides structural, mechanical, and piping drafting and engineering support to the Engineering Department.

Role Purpose
Conduct API RP 4G category inspections and provide technical expertise in structural and piping component quality assurance, drafting, and engineering support. Deliver technical assistance to clients and suppliers while overseeing fabrication, installations, surveys, and repairs at subcontractor and client facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Inspections and Quality Assurance
- Conduct category inspections onsite as per API RP 4G standard.
- Support onsite service jobs through conducting API inspections, rig structural surveys, rig repair and installation supervision, and inspections at supplier facilities.
- Perform API RP 4G CAT III and IV inspections.
- Review customer specifications to ensure structural product integrity.
- Check layouts and detailed drawings when required to ensure drawing accuracy.
Technical Support and Problem-Solving
- Work with customers and suppliers to resolve structural and piping component and system issues.
- Provide technical support to the DLS and Sales Teams.
- Provide technical assistance to clients and suppliers.
- Provide authoritative advice and expertise to diagnose, investigate, and develop solutions to moderately complex problems.
- Provides mentoring and training for all less experienced Service Engineers.
- Support co-workers with technical inquiries and training.
Engineering and Drafting
- Provide structural, mechanical, and piping drafting and engineering support to the Engineering Department.
- Provide accurate layout and assembly drawings from design calculations and concept drawings.
- Provide accurate detailed drawings from layout and assembly drawings.
- Produce sales drawings when required.
- Assist in all project engineering activities.
Fabrication and Installation Oversight
- Supervise with complete knowledge upgrades and repair work on mast, substructure, and offshore derricks.
- Perform or oversee fabrication, installations, survey, and repairs both at subcontractor and client facilities.
Site and Resource Management
- Provide list of resources required to perform any site job based on experience.
- Establish and maintain a good working relationship with on-site customer representatives.
- Accountable for developing the BOM/list for any replacement materials upon return from site visit.
- Red mark drawings with any modifications and changes and update this to engineering upon return from each visit.
Standards and Compliance
- Achieve and maintain a sound understanding of structural industry standards for structure manufacturing.
- Stay current on information contained in Product and Safety Bulletins.
- Complete all work in compliance with company and customer policies and procedures for HSSE.
- Be guided by HMH Visions and Values in all activities.
General Operations
- Interact with customers and other HMH personnel in a professional manner.
- Support the company's yearly strategic objectives.
- Ability to share knowledge with customers.
- Ability to negotiate and communicate at all levels to coordinate tasks effectively between different groups and departments.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or higher in an Engineering discipline (Civil/Structural or Mechanical).
- Five (5) or more years of experience in structural and/or piping fabrication and repairs.
- Five (5) or more years of experience working on oil drilling rigs (onshore and offshore).
- American Welding Society – Certified Welding Inspector (plus).
- ASNT Level II or III or CSWIP 3.1 or higher (plus).
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in AutoCAD; any 3D software (plus).
- Ability to read piping one-line and isometric drawings.
- Competent with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in written and reading comprehension of English (preferably).
- Ability to work as an individual and as part of a team.
- Ability to take initiative and be accountable for own decisions and actions.
