Role Overview
Steel Structure Design Engineer - SME at AtkinsRéalis, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This is a regular employee position supporting major transportation and urban infrastructure projects.

Role Purpose
Support clients in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with bridge design development, technical leadership, construction supervision, stakeholder coordination, and project delivery for major transportation and urban infrastructure projects. Lead the design, analysis, and delivery of steel bridge structures while ensuring compliance with approved designs, specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements throughout all project stages.
Key Responsibilities
Bridge Design & Engineering
- Deliver extensive experience in the design, analysis, and delivery of steel bridge structures for major urban transportation and highway projects.
- Provide proven involvement in large-scale bridge and infrastructure developments in Riyadh, KSA, or similar GCC environments.
- Design and develop Steel Plate Girder Bridges, Steel Box Girder Bridges, Composite Steel-Concrete Bridges, Pedestrian Steel Bridges, Flyovers, Grade-Separated Interchanges, and Elevated Road Structures.
Construction Supervision & Site Experience
- Supervise bridge construction activities on major infrastructure projects.
- Review and approve shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, and temporary works designs.
- Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with approved designs, project specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Support bridge erection, launching, rehabilitation, widening, strengthening, and replacement works.
- Coordinate with contractors, supervision consultants, and construction teams during project execution.
- Resolve site-related engineering and construction challenges.
- Monitor construction progress and support technical delivery throughout all project stages.
Urban Infrastructure & Stakeholder Coordination
- Demonstrate familiarity with bridge design requirements for congested urban corridors, grade separations, and major road network improvements.
- Coordinate bridge design with highways, utilities, traffic, drainage, geotechnical, and construction teams.
- Manage strong stakeholder relationships across clients, contractors, authorities, and multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in bridge engineering with significant exposure to steel bridge design and construction supervision.
- Proven experience delivering bridge projects within Saudi Arabia and/or the GCC region.
- Direct experience on large-scale infrastructure projects in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, or the wider GCC region highly preferred.
- Professional Engineering Chartership or equivalent accreditation desirable.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of bridge analysis and design software including MIDAS Civil, SAP2000, CSI Bridge, RM Bridge, and SOFiSTiK.
- Experience with international bridge design standards and Saudi regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication and technical leadership skills.
- Strong stakeholder management capabilities.
