Role Overview

Staff Nurse Interventional Radiography at SEHA, located in Abu Dhabi.

Role Purpose

Deliver safe, age-appropriate patient care in interventional radiology procedures according to nursing scope of practice and regulatory standards. Provide clinical leadership, health education, and contribute to quality improvement and organizational development within the interventional radiology setting.

Clinical Practice

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in accordance with organizational policy, procedures, and unit scope of service.
• Assume accountability and responsibility for own practice and do not carry out tasks beyond level of competence.
• Utilize evidence-based practice in provision of care.
• Coordinate individualized care from point of first contact throughout the episode of care, incorporating discharge planning.
• Identify significant changes in patient conditions, initiate appropriate action, and report to immediate supervisor or physician as appropriate.
• Prioritize patient care based on ongoing assessment of patient needs.
• Participate in the referral process and utilize available resources for comprehensive care to patients and families per organizational policy.

• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to provide patient and family-centered care.
• Administer medications according to organization policies and procedures, understand medication actions and contraindications, evaluate patient response, and identify side effects and initiate appropriate action.
• Practice within Ministry of Health and HA-AD Narcotic Policies and Procedures.
• Report Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs) and medication errors in accordance with organization policy.
• Respond to all levels of emergencies according to organizational policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of resource consumption and practice within a cost-effective framework.

Interventional Radiology Procedures

• Support vascular access procedures.
• Support angiography and angioplasty procedures.
• Support embolization procedures.
• Support biopsy procedures.
• Manage sedation and patient monitoring.
• Administer contrast media and manage reactions.
• Assess and stabilize patients before, during, and after procedures.
• Deliver recovery and post-procedure care.

Communication

• Maintain confidentiality and security of patient, family, and organizational information in accordance with confidentiality policy.
• Maintain responsibility for documentation and participate in use of information technology and relevant electronic medical records.
• Facilitate effective communication between patient, family, and interdisciplinary healthcare team as required.
• Liaise with other healthcare providers as necessary to ensure appropriate and timely interventions and discharge planning.
• Actively participate in meetings, rounds, and case conferences in the role of primary nurse.
• Provide comprehensive clinical handover and reports as required to ensure patient safety.
• Ensure nursing documentation is compliant with organization policies and procedures.
• Ensure documentation reflects continuous, systematic, and accurate nursing assessment of all patient care events.
• Establish and maintain professional boundaries with patients and members of the healthcare team.

Performance Improvement and Risk Management

• Participate in quality improvement activities by assisting with development of standards, implementation and review of policies, procedures, guidelines, evaluation of indicators, and reporting of outcomes and trends.
• Monitor and assist in evaluating unit operation and services to correct problems, improve systems, and ensure safe patient care.
• Participate in interdisciplinary teams and Performance Improvement Projects for evaluation and improvement of processes and clinical practice.
• Actively contribute to the organization's culture of patient safety.
• Ensure provision of a clean and safe working environment that minimizes risks to patient, visitors, other staff, and self.
• Identify faulty or defective equipment or furniture, remove from service, and report to immediate supervisor for action.
• Comply with International and HAAD patient safety goals.
• Actively promote and comply with the organization's Infection Control policies and procedures.
• Identify, manage, and report incidents to immediate supervisor and physician as required, and complete appropriate documentation according to organization policy.

• Ensure patient and family are provided with comprehensive information and resources to meet healthcare needs.

Professional Responsibility

• Promote a suitable learning environment for staff and act as mentor or preceptor as needed.
• Supervise and teach other staff as needed.
• Complete mandatory and unit-specific competencies and demonstrate ongoing competence.
• In conjunction with Manager, Charge Nurse, or CRN, identify own professional learning needs and develop an annual learning plan.
• Demonstrate improvement in clinical practice as a result of application of new theoretical knowledge.
• Initiate or participate in nursing or other disciplines research that contributes to continual improvement in standards of care.
• Develop and maintain own Professional Portfolio as per HA-AD policy.
• Obtain accredited and non-accredited Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) units in compliance with HA-AD and organizational requirements.

SEHA Compliance

• Comply consistently with facility policies, procedures, and practices and ensure alignment with SEHA facilities policies.
• Complete and maintain regulatory requirements including licensure, certification, and other mandatory training within established timeframes.
• Maintain confidentiality with regards to any information exchanged or received in current capacity of role in accordance with facility policy.
• Assume role of brand ambassador for facility and promote customer-focused philosophy in dealing with any stakeholders.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Education

• Bachelor degree in nursing or equivalent qualification of not less than three years study duration in nursing from accredited program, OR Associate Degree in Nursing from North America with evidence of passing the National exam (USA: NCLEX-RN; Canada: Licensing Exam).

Required Licensure and Certification

• Valid DOH RN License.
• BLS (Basic Life Support).

Desired Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support).
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) relevant to area of specialty.

Required Experience

• Not less than two years clinical experience post-qualification in Interventional Radiology Nursing in appropriate setting. Experience requirement waived for graduates of UAE nursing colleges and universities after completion of internship.
