Staff Nurse - ICU

Role Overview

Staff Nurse - ICU at SEHA. The ICU Staff Nurse monitors, responds to emergencies, manages mechanical ventilation, vasopressor and dialysis therapies, and delivers complex post-operative care using specialized equipment including ventilators, infusion pumps, cardiac monitors, feeding tubes, catheters, and central lines to optimize patient outcomes.

Role Purpose

The ICU Staff Nurse plays a critical role in emergency response, patient stabilization, and ongoing critical care management while working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and maintaining the highest standards of professional practice and patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Assessment

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients requiring intensive monitoring and life-support interventions.
• Perform continuous assessment of patient condition, recognizing early signs of deterioration and initiating appropriate interventions.
• Identify significant changes in patient condition, initiate appropriate action, and report to immediate supervisor or physician as appropriate.
• Utilize early warning scoring tools where appropriate to identify deterioration in a timely fashion and escalate care appropriately as per SEHA policy.
• Own the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in accordance with the organization's policy and procedures and the unit scope of service.
• Use the individualized, integrated plan of care to guide and prioritize care throughout the episode incorporating discharge planning and setting measurable goals daily which are transparent to the patient.

Emergency Response & Clinical Management

• Actively participate in emergency situations including cardiac arrest, rapid response calls, and patient resuscitation.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary medical team to implement care plans.

Protocols & Standards

• Follow ICU protocols, clinical pathways, and infection control standards.
• Ensure proper documentation and compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Demonstrate knowledge in and compliance with the completion of documentation in an appropriate timeframe according to Healthcare Facility policies and guidelines.
• Utilize evidence-based practice in the provision of care.

Professional Accountability

• Assume accountability and responsibility for own practice and do not carry out tasks beyond level of competence.
• Demonstrate ability to navigate Malaffi accurately and efficiently.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

• Bachelor Degree in Nursing; or
• Associate degree in Nursing from Canada or USA with minimum two years course duration and successful completion of the National exam (NCLEX - RN for USA; Licensing Exam for Canada).

Licensure & Experience

• DOH License or Eligibility.
• Minimum two years clinical experience post qualification.
