Role Overview

Staff Nurse - Burn Unit at SEHA, delivering specialized and compassionate nursing care to patients with burn injuries.

Role Purpose

The Staff Nurse - Burn Unit is responsible for delivering specialized and compassionate nursing care to patients with burn injuries, monitoring their conditions and progress, and collaborating with the multidisciplinary medical team to ensure optimal recovery outcomes in accordance with hospital policies and established standards.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care Delivery

• Provide direct nursing care to burn patients in accordance with hospital policies and standards.
• Monitor patients' conditions, vital signs, and wound healing progress.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Assist in wound care, dressing changes, and infection control procedures.
• Identify significant changes in patient condition, initiate appropriate action, and report to immediate supervisor or physician as appropriate.

Assessment, Planning & Implementation

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in accordance with the organization's policy, procedures, and unit scope of service.
• Use the individualized, integrated plan of care to guide and prioritize care throughout the episode, incorporating discharge planning and setting measurable goals daily which are transparent to the patient.
• Utilize early warning scoring tools where appropriate to identify deterioration in a timely fashion and escalate care appropriately as per SEHA policy.
• Utilize evidence-based practice in the provision of care.

Collaboration & Support

• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary medical team to implement patient-centered care plans.
• Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families throughout treatment and rehabilitation.

Documentation & Compliance

• Ensure proper documentation and compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Demonstrate knowledge in and compliance with the completion of documentation in an appropriate timeframe according to Healthcare Facility policies and guidelines.
• Assume accountability and responsibility for own practice and do not carry out tasks beyond level of competence.

Systems & Tools

• Demonstrate ability to navigate Malaffi accurately and efficiently.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor Degree in Nursing; or Associate degree in Nursing from Canada or USA with minimum two years course duration and successful completion of the National exam (USA: NCLEX - RN; Canada: Licensing Exam).
• DOH License or Eligibility.
• Minimum two years clinical experience post qualification.
