Role Overview
Sr. MongoDB Database Engineer (Open Source DBA) at GSSTech Group. This role supports enterprise-scale Digital Products and Digital Onboarding initiatives.
Role Purpose
Design, administer, and maintain MongoDB database environments across enterprise platforms while managing deployments, migrations, performance optimization, and production support for mission-critical database infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Architecture
- Design, administer, and maintain MongoDB database environments across enterprise platforms.
- Configure and administer MongoDB Replica Sets and Sharded Cluster architectures.
- Execute database patching, version upgrades, and environment maintenance activities.
Performance & Optimization
- Monitor database performance and implement tuning and optimization strategies.
- Manage MongoDB database deployments, upgrades, migrations, and performance optimization activities.
Backup, Recovery & Reliability
- Perform MongoDB backup and restore operations and ensure database availability and reliability.
Migrations & Deployment
- Manage database migrations across environments with minimal downtime.
Production Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide production support and troubleshoot database-related issues across environments.
- Support out-of-hours and weekend activities when required for critical deployments or maintenance windows.
Project & Team Collaboration
- Support technology projects involving Digital Products and Digital Onboarding initiatives.
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and engineering teams to support project deliveries.
- Participate in Agile delivery practices and support multiple projects simultaneously.
Qualifications & Experience
- 4+ years of experience working in large enterprise environments.
- Banking or Financial Services industry experience is preferred.
- Experience supporting large-scale digital transformation initiatives will be an added advantage.
Skills & Competencies
MongoDB Administration
- Strong hands-on experience in MongoDB Database Administration.
- Excellent understanding of MongoDB architecture and internal components.
- Strong experience with MongoDB Replica Sets.
- Strong experience with MongoDB Sharding.
- Strong experience with MongoDB Ops Manager.
- Strong experience with MongoDB Backup & Restore mechanisms.
- Strong experience with database patching and upgrades.
- Strong experience with performance tuning and optimization.
- Strong experience with database migrations.
- Strong experience with Mongo Query Language (MQL).
Operating Systems
- Strong working knowledge of Unix.
- Strong working knowledge of Linux operating systems.
Database Technologies
- Experience working with Open Source database technologies.
- Exposure to other database platforms will be considered an advantage.
Automation & Scripting
- Exposure to modern automation technologies such as Ansible, Jenkins, and Terraform (nice to have).
- Experience with scripting languages including Bash and Python (nice to have).
Delivery & Methodology
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent technology projects.
- Strong understanding of enterprise technology delivery practices.
