Speech - Language Therapist/Pathologist (Sakina)

Role Overview

Speech-Language Therapist/Pathologist at SEHA (Sakina). The role provides quality professional services in the evaluation and treatment of patients with speech, language, cognitive, fluency, voice, swallowing, feeding disorders and associated communication problems.

Role Purpose

To deliver comprehensive speech and language pathology services to patients across a range of disorders, developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring therapy is integrated into patients' daily routines and learning environments.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Assessment & Diagnosis

• Conduct in-depth case histories including medical, social, psychological, educational and developmental information.
• Apply investigative skills and broad knowledge of standardized assessments.
• Use sound analytical clinical reasoning to form baseline measures or differential diagnoses.
• Plan intervention programmes based on assessment findings.

Treatment & Intervention Delivery

• Independently manage, with supervision, a caseload of patients with developmental speech and language delay and disorder, social communication disorder including dysfluency and motor speech disorders (dyspraxia).
• Develop and implement specialized speech and language treatment plans for individuals and groups.
• Target a wide range of difficulties including attention and listening skills, auditory processing skills, play and interaction, understanding and expression of language, speech production and sound system development (pronunciation).
• Deliver therapy intervention ensuring speech, language and communication programmes are integral to the patient's learning and daily routines.

Patient & Family Management

• Establish and maintain productive therapeutic relationships with patients, carers and families.
• Agree decision-making relevant to the patient's management, taking into account challenging communication impairment, challenging behaviour, psychological and emotional state and differing cultural attitudes and expectations.
• Advise others regarding management and care of patients with communication needs and oro-motor difficulties.
• Set and review specific targets in collaboration with those in daily contact with the patient.
• Demonstrate activities and provide resources to realize targets.
• Involve families, carers and educators in treatment planning and delivery.

Collaboration & Coordination

• Work as a member of the speech-language therapy team providing efficient and effective service.
• Liaise with internal and external agencies.
• Provide timely and targeted individualized management, treatment and advice.
• Provide appropriate recommendations and training to professionals from other agencies and disciplines.

Safety, Infection Control & Compliance

• Apply standard precautions for infection control using interventions that minimize or prevent cross infection.
• Practice effective hand washing and cleansing when appropriate, particularly on entering and leaving clinical areas and between each patient.
• Maintain high control over infection, safety and health regulations.
• Ensure all concerned parties follow the same regulations.
• Continuously monitor all use equipment and report any faulty behaviour.
• Contact maintenance or supplier for any required repairs or updates.
• Maintain the strictest confidence in relation to patient information whether formally or informally recorded.

Qualifications & Experience

• National Language Therapy (NLT) certification or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in the field of Speech and Hearing Sciences or Speech Language Pathology.

Skills & Competencies

• Proven communication skills in Arabic are desirable.
