Role Overview

Specialist, Sedimentologist at ADNOC, located in Abu Dhabi.

Role Purpose

Conduct and coordinate sedimentological analyses, studies and evaluations to understand the local and sub-regional geology within Abu Dhabi, including core studies, petrographical studies, and compositional analysis of sedimentary rocks. Prepare sedimentological models and paleo-depositional environments that serve as input for play evaluation, exploration prospect maturation and well proposals to support replacement of produced reserves.

Key Responsibilities

Sedimentological Analysis & Interpretation

• Coordinate and conduct sedimentological analyses, studies and evaluations as a routine part of the exploration process workflow.
• Design, lead, supervise and conduct studies using all sedimentological work methods including core description, thin section studies, SEM photography, petrological and petrographical studies, and lithostratigraphy.
• Initiate, supervise, coordinate and conduct core studies, core descriptions and petrographic analyses to support revised, updated and new sedimentological interpretations.
• Review the results of previous sedimentological studies and evaluations and identify gaps or additional work required.
• Integrate sedimentological, petrophysical, petroleum engineering, geological and well data in close cooperation with other disciplines.
• Contribute to and review sedimentological aspects of stratigraphic, geophysical and petrophysical studies conducted within the function and by third parties.

Modeling & Petroleum Systems

• Lead, supervise the preparation, verification, validation and continuous updating of paleo-depositional models for exploration purposes.
• Prepare sedimentological input files including paleo-environmental maps and data sheets needed for generating petroleum system models to assess exploration target potential.
• Update petroleum system models, verify previous data, integrate new data and run and test alternative scenarios to support the basin modeller.

Quality Assurance & Data Management

• Monitor the work of consultants involved in sedimentological studies to ensure accuracy and quality of work carried out and report results to team members and concerned parties.
• Ensure the receipt, quality control, calibration and updating of corporate and exploration databases with data received from service providers, Group Companies, SPC companies, new Joint Ventures and other third parties.

Prospect Development & Assessment

• Participate in and contribute to prospect volumetrics, risk assessment, portfolio ranking and documentation of final results.

Technology & Knowledge Management

• Liaise with suppliers of geological and sedimentological software, staying up-to-date with latest software developments and new technologies of potential value to the function.
• Attend conferences, seminars and review technical periodicals.
• Recommend the acquisition of new software and hardware related to exploration geology or sedimentology and participate in preparation of justifications for these acquisitions.

Regional Collaboration

• Propose and prepare data exchanges and trades with companies active in countries and emirates surrounding Abu Dhabi to complement ADNOC corporate database and support regional studies.

Reporting & Administration

• Contribute to regular management reports such as weekly highlights, weekly action points and daily exploration well drilling reports.
• Coordinate, assist and delegate ad-hoc tasks and projects such as data requests from universities or other third parties, training requests from UAE University and GIS database management.

Supervision & Development

• Plan, supervise and coordinate all activities in the assigned area to meet functional objectives.
• Train and develop assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient and deliver business objectives.

Budget & Performance

• Provide input for preparation of Function, Division, Department and Section budgets and assist in implementation of approved budgets and work plans.
• Investigate and highlight significant variances to support effective performance and cost control.
• Contribute to achievement of approved Performance Objectives for the Function, Division, Department and Section in line with Company Performance framework.

Process & Compliance

• Implement approved Function, Division, Department and Section policies, processes, systems, standards and procedures to support execution of work programs in line with Company and International standards.
• Comply with relevant HSE policies, procedures, controls, applicable legislation and sustainability guidelines in line with international standards, best practices and ADNOC Code of Practices.

Continuous Improvement

• Design and implement new tools and techniques to improve quality and efficiency of operational processes.
• Identify improvements in internal processes against best practices in pursuit of greater efficiency in line with best industry standards.
• Provide inputs to prepare MIS and progress reports for Company Management.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in geology, geoscience or equivalent.
• 10 years in all aspects of exploration geology sedimentology.
• Extensive experience in lead and prospects maturation.
