Role Overview

Specialist Physician-General Medicine at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC).

Role Purpose

Deliver high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care in General Medicine under the supervision of the Consultant Physician. Exemplify clinical excellence within the Division and contribute to the supervision and training of junior medical staff.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Patient Management

• Diagnose and treat patients according to established standards of best practice for General Medicine specialty, under supervision of the Consultant Physician.
• Lead ward rounds and reassess both inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis in line with established best practice.
• Accept clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk-in patients, and patients referred from other hospitals.
• Ensure preparation of patients for all procedures, including obtaining informed consent.
• Communicate clinical information to patients and their family and friends (with patient consent) in a timely manner.
• Regularly review results of all investigations and modify treatment as required.
• Liaise with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required.
• Practice appropriate utilization of the organization's resources.

Multidisciplinary & Collaborative Care

• Actively participate in multidisciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe, and holistic care for individual patients.
• Maintain a good working relationship with members of staff and promote collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care.
• Build key partnerships within the organization for pursuing client-centered, comprehensive, integrated systems of care.

Supervision & Training

• Assist the Consultant Physician in supervising the activities of junior medical staff and jointly assume responsibility for the care they provide.
• Promote and assist in the instruction, guidance, and supervision of junior medical staff.
• Keep abreast of current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry.

On-Call & Service Coverage

• Participate in and support the Consultant Physician in ensuring the provision of out-of-hours (on-call) coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays as required.
• Assist with Consultant staff in ensuring that adequate medical coverage is provided within the Division at all times.

Documentation & Compliance

• Accurately document all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures.
• Comply with all hospital policies regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow-up practices.

Organizational & Administrative Duties

• Support and adhere to all hospital departmental and divisional initiatives, policies, and procedures.
• Support and participate in the organization's performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes.
• Attend divisional meetings as invited.
• Support the reporting, investigation, and response to untoward incidents.
• Assume other administrative or clinical duties as requested by Consultant staff.

Quality Improvement & Audit

• Help support quality improvement initiatives within the Division.
• Support a culture of regular audit and encourage the use of audit results for improving clinical practice.
• Promote and participate in clinical research and publication.

Regulatory & Professional Development

• Complete and maintain regulatory requirements, including licensure, certification, and other mandatory training within established time frames.
• Maintain confidentiality with regards to any information exchanged or received in the current capacity of role in accordance with facility policy.
• Adhere to requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and infection control guidelines.
• Understand and adhere to emergency preparedness plans and policies.
• Recognize the necessity of continuously developing skills and acquiring additional knowledge appropriate to the position.
• Dress appropriately to meet the expectations of the specific work area and in alignment with Occupational Health and Safety policies.
• Comply with any regulations related to mentoring, training, and development of UAE nationals staff.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Experience

• Tier 1: No additional experience required post board certification.
• Tier 2: Not less than 2 years of clinical experience post qualification in an internationally accredited institute.
• Tier 3: Not less than 3 years clinical experience as Specialist post qualification in an internationally accredited institute.
• UAE nationals: No additional experience required post board certification.
• For UAE nationals and non-UAE nationals enrolled in HAAD accredited residency programs: No experience required post board certification.

Required Education

• Qualifications from Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3 board certification.
• Current national license or equivalent.
