Role Overview

Specialist Physician-Emergency at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC).

Role Purpose

Deliver high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered emergency care under the supervision of the Consultant Physician. Exemplify clinical excellence within the Division and contribute to the supervision and training of junior medical staff.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Delivery

• Diagnose and treat patients according to established standards of best practice for the specialty.
• Lead ward rounds and reassess both inpatients and outpatients on a regular basis in line with established best practice.
• Accept clinically appropriate referrals from the Emergency Department, primary care, other departments, specialty clinics, walk-in patients, and patients referred from other hospitals.
• Ensure preparation of patients for all procedures including obtaining informed consent.
• Regularly review results of all investigations and modify treatment as required.
• Communicate clinical information to patients and the patient's family and friends (with consent of the patient) in a timely manner.
• Perform other clinical duties as assigned.

Supervision and Training

• Assist the Consultant Physician in supervising the activities of junior medical staff and jointly assume responsibility for the care they provide.
• Promote and assist in the instruction, guidance and supervision of junior medical staff.
• Support compliance with any regulations related to mentoring, training and development of UAE nationals staff.

Documentation and Communication

• Accurately document all relevant clinical information in a clear and timely fashion in accordance with established procedures.
• Liaise with other medical specialties and support services for additional input as required.
• Actively participate in multi-disciplinary meetings to help plan effective, safe and holistic care for individual patients.
• Maintain positive and effective working relationships within the department, division, and across other departments and sections within the facility.
• Maintain a good working relationship with members of staff and promote collaboration and a team-based approach to patient care.

Governance and Compliance

• Support and adhere to all hospital departmental and divisional initiatives, policies and procedures.
• Comply with all hospital policies regarding admissions, consultations, daily patient care, surgical procedures, discharge protocols, outpatient and follow-up practices.
• Support the reporting, investigation and response to untoward incidents.
• Complete and maintain regulatory requirements including licensure and certification and other mandatory training within established time frames.
• Maintain confidentiality with regards to any information exchanged or received in the current capacity of the role in accordance with facility policy.
• Adhere to requirements of Occupational Health and Safety guidelines and infection control guidelines.
• Understand and adhere to emergency preparedness plans and policies.
• Dress appropriately to meet the expectations of the specific work area and in alignment with Occupational Health and Safety policies.

Operations and Resource Management

• Assist with Consultant staff in ensuring that adequate medical coverage is provided within the Division at all times.
• Participate in and support the Consultant Physician in ensuring the provision of out-of-hours (on-call) coverage on a rotational basis including evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays as required.
• Practice appropriate utilization of the organization's resources.
• Assume other administrative or clinical duties as requested by the Consultant Staff.
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned relevant to the basic scope of the role.

Quality and Professional Development

• Support and participate in the organization's performance management system, including peer review and the productivity and utilization review processes.
• Help support quality improvement initiatives within the Division.
• Support a culture of regular audit and encourage the use of audit results for improving clinical practice.
• Promote and participate in clinical research and publication.
• Keep abreast of current, relevant literature and the latest trends and technologies in the industry.
• Recognize the necessity of continuously developing skills and acquiring additional knowledge appropriate to the position.

Stakeholder Management

• Attend Divisional meetings as invited.
• Build key partnerships within the organization for pursuing client-centered, comprehensive, integrated systems of care.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Experience

• Tier 1: No additional experience required post board certification.
• Tier 2: Not less than 2 years of clinical experience post qualification in an internationally accredited institute.
• Tier 3: Not less than 3 years clinical experience as Specialist post qualification in an internationally accredited institute.
• UAE nationals: No additional experience required post board certification.
• For UAE Nationals and Non-UAE Nationals enrolled in HAAD accredited residency programs: No experience required post board certification.

Required Education

• Qualifications from Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3.
• Current national license or equivalent.
